Bronx, N.Y. – Fordham water polo swept the MAWPC weekly awards: sophomore Alessandro Salipante was named Player of the Week, freshman Petar Kulas was named Defensive Player of the Week, and Karlo Dragosevic was named Rookie of the Week. It is the first weekly award for each.
 
The Rams, ranked fifth in the nation, opened MAWPC play last weekend at the Bucknell Invitational where they swept three matches, defeating Bucknell (21-11), Mount St. Mary's (23-5), and Mercyhurst (26-3).
 
Player of the Week
Alessandro Salipante (So., Brindisi, Italy)
• In three games, he totaled 13 points on five goals and eight assists.
• Recorded seven points vs. Bucknell with two goals and five assists.
• Had three goals and two assists vs. Mount St. Mary's for five points.
• Tallied one point (an assist) vs. Mercyhurst in very limited playing time.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Petar Kulas (Fr., Dubrovnik, Croatia)
• Played the 2MD position all weekend and did not allow his opponent to score a goal with no ejections.
• Scored seven goals on eight shots.
 
Rookie of the Week
Karlo Dragosevic (Fr., Split, Croatia)
• Totaled five goals in three games this weekend.
• Scored three goals and drew two exclusions at center, drawing one penalty against Bucknell.
• Had two goals, three drawn exclusions, and one penalty drawn vs. Mount St. Mary's.
• Played just a few minutes in third game vs. Mercyhurst but had a penalty drawn.
 
What's Next?
• The Rams head west for three matches this weekend, starting with a game at top-ranked UCLA on Friday, September 25, at 8:00 p.m. EST
• Fordham will also play at #6 Long Beach State (Sunday at 3:00 p.m.) and #16 Cal Baptist (Monday at 2:00 p.m.) on the trip.
