Pennsauken, N.J. -The Fordham women raced at the Dad Vail Regatta this past weekend on the Cooper River, with time trials and semifinals on Friday and grand finals and finals on Saturday.Â
Â
Each boat got progressively stronger throughout the weekend, racing against the most difficult field so far this season. The crews experienced challenging conditions with a 15 mph tailwind on Friday and a moderate headwind and current on Saturday.Â
Â
All boats placed fourth in their respective finals - The varsity eight and second varsity eight placed fourth in the grand final, the V8 with a time of 6:45.32 and 2V8 with a time of 7:10.49. The varsity four placed fourth by .3 of a margin in their final, racing an 8:11.13.
Â
Across all races, the Rams faced an extraordinarily competitive field, with the second varsity eight and the varsity four putting up some of the best racing they have done all season.Â
Â
An exemplary maneuver was done by
Louisa Sweeney, coxswain of the first varsity eight, when during the semifinals, the Western Ontario crew stopped mid race and turned into the Rams' lane. Sweeney handled this extraordinarily, and immediately took the advantage of the down crew to secure a third place finish in the semifinal and advancement to the Grands on Saturday.Â
