Baseball Welcomes Cornell To Houlihan Park for Weekend Series

Doubleheader Slated for Saturday with Single Game on Sunday

Bronx, N.Y. – (March 6, 2026) – The Fordham baseball team (2-8) will open its home schedule this weekend when the Rams host the Cornell Big Red (0-7) for a three-game series at Houlihan Park.
 
The home series kicks off a busy week leading to the opening series of conference play at Davidson next weekend.  Fordham will host Iona on Tuesday, while having added a game at Rutgers on Wednesday.
 
PROBABLE STARTERS
  • Saturday (G1): Fordham – LHP Beau Elson (1-1) vs. Cornell – RHP Carson Mayfield (0-2)
  • Saturday (G2): Fordham – RHP Chase Hanawalt (0-2) vs. Cornell – LHP Huxley Holcombe (0-2)
  • Sunday: Fordham – RHP Aidan Dowd (0-2) vs. Cornell – RHP Ethan Hamill (0-1)
SERIES HISTORY
  • The Fordham-Cornell series dates back to 1891 with 20 games played between the two New York State schools.The teams last played in a neutral site game in a 2019, a 1-0 win by Cornell, while the last series was in 2018 at Houlihan Park, where the Rams took two of three games from the Big Red.
FORDHAM NEWS & NOTES
  • The Rams went 1-2 last weekend at Stetson, earning a 7-6 win in game two of the series.
  • Following a hot start to the season, Anthony Grabau was named to the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List, which honors the top shortstop in the country.Through the first ten games of 2026, he leads the Rams in batting average (.484), runs scored (9), hits (15), home runs (2), and RBI (15).He already has six multi-hit games and three games with multiple RBI.
  • While Grabau is at the forefront of the offense, Beau Elson has earned the top spot in the Rams' rotation, going 1-1 in three starts with 17 strikeouts in 15.2 innings of work.
  • Andrew Kapica earned his first collegiate win last Saturday, throwing three innings of scoreless relief with four strikeouts.
  • Declan Cawley has also put up strong numbers in his first season on the mound with a 3.52 ERA and six strikeouts in three appearances.
OPPONENT OUTLOOK
  • Cornell is 0-7 on the year, dropping two games to both Northwestern and Boston College, while falling to Richmond three times last weekend.
  • The Big Red are hitting .250 as a team, averaging four runs per contest.
  • Owen Carlson is off to a nice start with 10 hits in 30 at bats (.333), while leading the team with five runs scored, two home runs, and six RBI.
  • Caden Wildman has the top batting average for the Big Red at .346 with two doubles and three runs scored.
WHO'S NEXT
  • Following this weekend, the Rams are scheduled to play at home on Tuesday, March 10 against Iona (3:00 PM), while traveling to Rutgers on Wednesday for a 1:00 PM game.Fordham then heads to Davidson to open Atlantic 10 play over the weekend, March 13-15.
