Football Undergoing Spring Practice Season

Rams open week two of spring ball

Bronx, N.Y. – It's officially spring and not just because the March equinox occurred last week. It's spring because that means it's time for the Fordham football spring practice season.

The Rams started the spring season two weeks ago before taking a hiatus for spring break but were back at it today for practice number three of the spring season as Fordham works towards the Spring Game, slated for Saturday, April 26.

Fordham returns six starters on defense, led by senior linebacker James Conway, who set the school and Patriot League career tackles records last fall. He enters the 2025 season with 436 career tackles, 114 shy of the NCAA FCS record of 550 set by Illinois State's Boomer Grigsby from 2001-04.

Other starters back on defense include Claudy Robinson, a 2024 Second Team All-Patriot League selection who started all 12 games on the defensive line, recording 37 total tackles, 13 solo, including six for loss and one sack, and Alex Kemper, who started all 12 games at cornerback last fall, making 43 total tackles, 31 solo.

The Rams have some holes to fill on offense as they lost eight starters to graduation. Quarterback Jack Capaldi returns as does tight end Matt Buron, who saw his 2024 season interrupted by injuries. On the offensive line Duke Leonard, who started at left guard last fall, is the lone returning start though Cooper LaFond returns after missing all but one game due to an injury.

Ricky Parks, who rushed for 240 yards last year, returns to the backfield while Ricky Gonzalez II and KJ Reed are back at wide receiver after gaining valuable experience last year.

The kicking game is covered with punter Will Haslett, a 2024 First Team All-Patriot League pick, returning along with placekicker Bennett Henderson.

The Rams welcomed seven new faces to the squad this spring. Freshmen Tyler Davis (DL), Krystian Pothel (DB), Wyatt Scarritt (OL), and Jaxon Taylor (OL), along with transfers Justin Federico (OL), Alec Hughes (WR), and Gunnar Smith (QB) all came on board for the spring season.

The Rams will kick off the 2025 season on Saturday, August 30, with a trip to Boston to face the FBS Boston College Eagles.
