BRONX, N.Y. – For the first time ever, Fordham Athletics has surpassed the $1 million mark from its two premier fundraising initiatives of the academic year: Giving Tuesday and Giving Day.
Â
The Rams officially eclipsed the $1 million mark after raising more than $320,000 on Giving Day earlier this month. In December, Fordham
enjoyed a record-setting Giving Tuesday that saw more than 850 donors contribute in excess of $700,000 to support the department's 22 varsity programs and 500-plus student-athletes.
Â
"The generosity of our supporters is truly remarkable," said Athletic Director
Charles Guthrie. "To see this level of investment from our alumni, family and friends has been the highlight of my first few months here at Rose Hill. I can't thank our donors enough and I look forward to working with each and every one of you as we help Fordham reach its full potential."
Â
Giving Day, which began on March 4, was highlighted by a 13% year-over-year increase in total fundraising with 400 donors accounting for $320,582. This total made up nearly a third of Fordham's total, the most of any specific unit within the University.
Â
Fresh off an appearance in the semifinals of the National Collegiate Championship, Fordham Water Polo led the way with 98 donors contributing more than $150,000 to support the Rams' efforts.
