Fordham Athletics Celebrates Record-Setting Giving Tuesday

Rams raised in excess of $700,000 to support student-athletes

BRONX, N.Y. – The Fordham Athletic Department enjoyed a record-setting Giving Tuesday this past week, raising more than $700,000 to support the more than 500 gifted student-athletes who call Fordham home.

More than 850 donors teamed up to shatter the Rams' previous Giving Tuesday high-water mark of $464,000 set last November, a year-over-year gain of roughly 60%.

"What an introduction to Fordham!" said Athletic Director Charles Guthrie, who officially assumed his role on Dec. 1.  "I'm so grateful for the enthusiastic support of our alumni and supporters.  With the Ramily behind us, I'm confident that this department will continue to do great things both on and off the fields of competition."

Fresh off an appearance in the semifinals of the National Collegiate Water Polo Championship and its fourth straight MAWPC title, the Fordham water polo program also led the way on Giving Tuesday, as the team raised $273,600 in support of its operations.  That figured marked a more than 400% increase from the team's Giving Tuesday total just a year ago.

The Fordham sailing program generated the department's second-highest Giving Tuesday total, receiving $154,000 from its most generous supporters.

Ten Fordham programs raised more than they did on Giving Tuesday 2023, including the men's soccer team, which saw a 90.6% increase after reaching the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in program history.  The women's soccer team registered the department's highest number of individual donors, as 112 different people contributed to the program after its first 10-win season since 2016.
