Virginia Beach, Va. – (March 1, 2025) – The 2025 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championship came to a close on Saturday at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
The Fordham men's team finished with an outstanding Saturday, placing fourth out of 11 scoring teams with 87 points. It was the Rams' best finish since 2018 and most points scored since 2012.
Among the many highlights on Saturday was the performance of freshman
Njam Abdul-Latif, as he was named the Most Outstanding Rookie Performer of the Championship after winning two events on the day. First, he won the 60-meter dash in dramatic fashion, taking gold in a school record time of 6.81 seconds as he beat out the second place runner by .003 seconds. Abdul-Latif then picked up his second gold medal, winning the 200-meter dash in an Atlantic 10 meet record of 21.17 seconds.
Sam Freeman also scored in the 200 meters in sixth place (21.88).
More gold was found in the mile run, as
Rodolfo Sanchez became Atlantic 10 champion with a winning time of 4:09.46, just ahead of teammate
Sean Reidy, who took silver in 4:09.50 for a 1-2 Fordham finish. With Sanchez's gold, it was the fourth overall for the Rams in the championship, the most Fordham has had in a single championship.
Fordham earned two more medals on the day in the 500-meter run and the 4x800 relay. In the 500-meter run,
Sam Freeman earned the bronze medal with a third place and season-best time of 1:04.23.
Kevin Callaghan also scored in the event in sixth place at 1:04.95. Then, the 4x800 relay team of Reidy,
Ben Borchers, Sanchez, and
Aidan Hickey got the final medal of the championship, taking bronze in a season-best time of 7:35.12.
Aside from the medals, Fordham scored in six other events on Saturday. In the heptathlon,
George Pomer and
Miguel Negrete scored seventh and eighth, respectively, scoring 4,438 points and 4,113 points.
DaRon Elam then scored sixth in the 60-meter hurdles with a season-best mark of 8.49 seconds, while just missing the scoring column in the high jump, tying for ninth at 6' 5". The next scoring event was the 800 meters, where Borchers was sixth in 1:53.57, while
John Corrigan was fifth in the 1,000 meters in 2:28.43.
Nathan Bezuneh was then sixth in the 3,000 meters in 8:10.90 with the 4x400 relay team of Callaghan,
Dakota Strain,
Matthew Nurse, and Freeman scoring fourth in 3:15.73.
The final event that Fordham had a competitor in was the triple jump, as
Luke Cramer was ninth with a distance of 45' ¼"
The Rams now look to the final championship of the indoor season, the IC4A Championship, which will be held, March 7-9, in Boston.
