Boston, Mass. – (February 14, 2025) – The Fordham track & field team is in Boston this weekend for the BU/David Hemery Valentine Invitational, held at the BU Track & Tennis Center.
The Fordham men were in action on Friday, posting five season-best times, multiple IC4A qualifying times, as well as one school record.
Njam Abdu-Latif continued his stellar campaign, as he won the 200-meter invitational event in a school record time of 21.00 seconds, bettering his own mark of 21.41 seconds from earlier this year. Sam Freeman was also in the event, placing 24th in 22.17 seconds. The open edition of the 200 meters saw Liam Volz take ninth in an IC4A qualifying time of 21.91 seconds with Dakota Strain in tenth (21.94) and Matthew Nurse in 19th (22.09). Volz also competed in the 60-meter dash, taking 11th in 7.06 seconds.
In the 400 meters, a trio of Rams qualified for the IC4A Championship. Kevin Callaghan was the top performer with a season-best time of 48.97 seconds, good for 13th overall, followed by Freeman in 20th (49.13) and Nelson Lindsay in 26th (49.36).
The 800-meter event saw Aidan Hickey finish 45th overall with a season-best and IC4A qualifying time of 1:51.14.
John Corrigan was the next IC4A qualifier in the 1,000 meters, as he ran 2:27.26 for 20th overall, while Darren Croke was 37th in 2:33.47. Both Corrigan and Croke returned to the track for the 4x400 relay with Hickey and Yariv Simhony, placing 28th in 3:25.27.
The mile run saw Rodolfo Sanchez with the top time for the Rams at 4:03.81 (90th), while Sean Reidy qualified for the IC4A Championship at 4:07.39 (142nd).
Nathan Bezuneh then posted a season-best time of 8:09.41 in the 3,000 meters as Fordham's top performer (119th), qualifying for the IC4As.
Luke Cramer and Constentino Proscia were the lone field event competitors on Friday. Proscia ended up with two top ten finishes, taking fourth in the long jump with a mark of 21' 5 ¼", while being sixth in the high jump, clearing 5' 10". Cramer ended up fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 44' 3 ½". He also took part in the 60-meter hurdles, where he was 25th in 9.10 seconds.
The remaining competitors for Fordham on Friday included Simhony in the 800 meters (1:56.10), Lucas Rohde in the mile (4:24.30), Bradford Duchesne in the 3,000 meters (8:35.31), and Matthew Mason in the 3,000 meters (8:48.73).
The BU Valentine Invitational concludes with the women's events on Saturday, starting at 9:00 AM.
