Staten Island, N.Y. – (January 31, 2025) – Friday proved to be a historical day for the Fordham men's track & field team as the Rams won the 2025 Metropolitan Indoor Track & Field Championship for the first time in team history at the Ocean Breeze Complex on Staten Island.
The Rams scored 188 points to win the team championship to pace the 13-team field. Fordham's closest competitors were Rowan at 156.5 points and Manhattan at 101.
Fordham's day was highlighted by 10 event wins, eight of which came on the track. Individually,
Aidan Hickey started the first place finishes, posting the top time in the mile run at 4:16.46, while
John Corrigan was second (4:18.88) with Bradofrd Duchesne in eighth (4:24.21).
The next win came in the 800-meter run, as
Rodolfo Sanchez clocked in with a winning time of 1:54.23 with
Darren Croke scoring fourth in 1:56.09.
Sean Reidy then followed with a first place time in the 1,000 meters at 2:30.71.
Ben Borchers (2:31.10) and
Matthew Febles (2:35.77) also scored in the 1,000 meters, placing second and fifth in respectively.
Njam Abdul-Latif continued his superb first season, winning the 200-meter dash with a school record time of 21.41 seconds, bettering his own mark of 21.47 from last week. He also scored second in the 60-meter dash at 6.91 seconds with
Liam Volz taking fifth (7.04).
The final individual track winner was
Nathan Bezuneh in the 3,000-meter run with a top time of 8:25.68, while
Lucas Rohde was fourth (8:46.76).
The track wins carried over to the relays, as Fordham won the distance medley (10:25.69), 4x800 (7:47.76), and the 4x400 (3:16.11), all in season-best times. The Rams also scored sixth in the 4x200 relay (1:31.26).
In the remaining track events,
Tadael Mihret (15:34.03) and
Nicolas Grabarz (15:38.81) scored fourth and fifth in the 5,000 meters with
DaRon Elam taking seventh in the 60-meter hurdles (8.60). Additionally,
Dakota Strain (4
th – 50.05),
Nelson Lindsay (6
th – 50.39), and
Matthew Nurse (8
th) all scored in the 400-meter dash, while
Sam Freeman (2
nd – 1:04.50),
Kevin Callaghan (4
th – 1:05.31), and
Yariv Simhony (8
th – 1:06.56) did so in the 500-meter dash.
The field events saw first place finishes in the high jump and pole vault, as Elam clearing 6' 4 ½" in the high jump, while
Michael Croke won the pole vault with a height of 13' 6 ½".
Miguel Negrete also scored third in the pole vault (12' 6 ¾"). The last scorer was
Luke Cramer in the triple jump, placing seventh at 43' 9 ¼".
The other top performers in the field events were Negrete in the shot put (11
th – 38' 9 ¼") and Constantino Proscia in the long jump (11
th – 20' 5 ¼").
The Rams are next in action on Saturday, February 8
th, as Fordham will be competing at both the Millrose Games at the Nike Track & Field Center at the Armory in New York and the Big Apple Invitational on Staten Island.
