New York, N.Y. – (January 17, 2025) – The Fordham track & field team was back on the track on Friday morning at the Ramapo Season Opener, hosted by Ramapo College at the Nike Track & Field Center at the Armory in New York.
The day was highlighted by multiple event wins and season-best performances for the Rams.
The first event win came from
Michaela Gier, who grabbed the top spot in the women's pole vault, clearing 10' 10", while
Sam Freeman won the the men's 400-meter dash in a season-best time of 49.10 seconds. Freeman returned to the track as a part of the men's 4x400 relay with
Kevin Callaghan,
Dakota Strain, and
Matthew Nurse, which won the event in a season-best time of 3:19.82.
The Rams also had a season-best time in the women's 4x400 relay, where
Alexandria Yarbrough,
Sara Labor,
Dillyn Green, and
Alexis Smith finished second in 3:59.18.
Other season-best performances were put in by
Njam Abdul-Latif, who was fifth in the 60-meter dash in a season-best time of 6.88 seconds, while
DaRon Elam was sixth in the 60-meter hurdles at a top time of 8.84 seconds. Additionally,
Michael Croke cleared a season-best 14' 1 ¼" in the men's pole vault, which tied for third.
Sarah Cooley then had a season-best throw of 40' 2" in the shot put, good for second place, while taking ninth in the weight throw (44' 6").
Fordham also had a number of top five finishes, starting with
Kylie Ritz, who was second in the women's 60-meter hurdles in 8.97 seconds, followed by
Zoe Arakelian and
Alexandra Manetovic who were fourth in the women's high jump (5' 3 ¾") and women's triple jump (37' 6 ½"), respectively. Just outside of the top five were Green, who was sixth in the women's 200-meter dash (25.95), and Strain, who was sixth in the men's 400-meter dash in the 50.16 seconds.
The Rams are next in action on January 24-25, at the RiverHawk Invitational, hosted by UMass-Lowell at the TRACK at new balance in Brighton, Massachusetts.
