MILFORD, Conn. – The Fordham golf team opened play at the Sacred Heart University Fall Classic on Monday, finishing one shot off the lead in the opening round before falling into third place after 36 holes at Great River Golf Club.
With 18 holes to play, the Rams sit just six strokes back of Manhattan in first place and four shots off Hofstra in the eight-team standings.
Hofstra's Jacob Vazquez shot a five-under 67 in the day's second round to climb atop the individual leaderboard at one under for the tournament.
Senior Jake Mrva led the Rams on Monday, shooting a one-over 73 in the opening round before posting a 74 in round two to grab a share of fifth place, four shots behind Vazquez heading into tomorrow's final round.
Tucker Silva and Chris Konefal are part of a five-way tie for 13th after going six over on the first two rounds. Silva posted a pair of 75s while Konefal went 74-76.
Coming off a strong performance in his collegiate debut last weekend, freshman Patrick Ginnity sits in a tie for 26th after posting a 75 and a 78 to round of the Rams' scorers.
Bryan Ruland (79-76) is tied for 34th while freshman Liam Howard (78-79) sits in a tie for 38th after his first two competitive collegiate rounds.
Luke Brower (81-78) is tied for 46th entering the tournament's final day, one stroke ahead of Felix Luetke Meyring (81-79) in 48th.
The Rams will wrap up the SHU Fall Classic with 18 holes on Tuesday.
