Bronx, N.Y. – As we enter the second week of the 2024 Fordham football camp we continue our position-by-position breakdown of the Rams with a look at the pass catchers.
The Rams return a plethora of talent at both wide receiver and tight end. The wide outs will be led by graduate students
Mekai Felton and
Garrett Cody. Felton, a 2024 team captain, led the 2023 squad with eight receiving touchdowns and was third in receptions (48) and receiving yards (513). Cody, a second team All-Patriot League pick last fall, was second on the team in receptions (54), receiving yards (856), and touchdowns (7).
Other experienced receivers who return this year include grad student
Cole Thornton, who hauled in eleven passes for 197 yards and one touchdown last year, and sophomores Ricky Gonzalez, who had seven receptions for 53 yards as a freshman, and
KJ Reed, who caught two passes for 18 yards as a rookie.
Also back are juniors
Jack Betten, who appeared in one game last year, and
Elijah Matos, who recovered from injury to see his first action last fall, along with sophomores
Nodin Tracy, who had a reception in the Wagner game last year,
Michael Doctor, who missed last year with an injury,
Michael Donegan,
Joey Duggan, and
Jabril Carter who did not see action in 2023.
Freshmen who look to break into the receiving rotation this fall include
Jack Freeburg, a two-time All-State receiver at Desert Mountain High School in Arizona,
Brandon Hutchison, who played for former Fordham assistant coach John Wholley at Avon Old Farms last year,
Austen Kivler, a product of Delbarton High School in New Jersey,
Zach Madison, who set Northern Highlands High School records for receiving yards and receiving touchdowns last year, and
Gjok Dedvukaj, a First Team All-League selection at Salisbury School last fall.
Tight end is another deep position for the Rams with three returners who caught at least one pass in 2023, led by senior
Jaden Allen, who led all Fordham tight ends last year with eleven catches for 95 yards with one touchdown, and grad student
Jeff Ciccio, who caught ten passes for 61 yards in 2023.
Also returning at tight end are juniors
Matt Buron, who grabbed a pair of passes as a sophomore last fall, along with
Patrick Montgomery and
Matty Weir, who each appeared in one game in 2023.
The lone newcomer at tight end is freshman
Max Polin, who had 65 receptions for 735 yards and 13 touchdowns at Chadwick High School in California, where he played with Fordham freshman quarterback
Thomas Rosso.
