Bronx, N.Y. – (July 1, 2024) – With a new season on the horizon, Fordham women's soccer head coach
Magnus Nilerud announced the addition of 11 student athletes for the 2024 season.
This year's class includes
Abby Borchers (Fresno, Calif. / Edison (Cal)),
Julia Acosta (Riverside, Conn. / Greenwich),
Caroline Aponte (Darien Conn. / Darien),
Baylee Canet (Holbrook, N.Y. / Sachem North),
Sophia Chipriano (Schuykill Haven, Pa. / Blue Mountain),
Allison Gardner (Dunn Loring, Va. / George C. Marshall),
Addison Green (Newmarket, Ontario / Sacred Heart Catholic),
Annie Maguire (Katonah, N.Y. / Somers),
Kendall Malmros (New Hope, Pa. / The Pennington School),
Lindsay Probst (Towaco, N.J. / Immaculate Heart Academy), and
Mackenzie Reid (Monroe, Conn. / Trumbull).
A 5-4 forward, Borchers is a graduate transfer from Cal, where she played 50 games for the Golden Bears over four seasons. She netted five goals and two assists in her time at Cal, posting her best season in 2023, as she tied for third on the team in scoring with three goals and two assists. Borchers was a part of the 2022 team that made the NCAA Tournament, while in 2021, she was a CoSIDA Academic All-District Second Team selection and was named to the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll. Prior to her time at Cal, she played club for the San Jose Earthquakes of USSDA and high school for Edison High School, where she was the 2019 CMAC Player of the Year. Borchers comes to the Bronx with family ties already here, as her brother, Ben, will be a junior on the Fordham men's cross country and track & field team.
Acosta is a 5-4 forward from Greenwich High School in Connecticut, where she was a four-year member of the varsity soccer team. A senior year captain, she earned MVP and First Team FCIACS honors. She also played club soccer for Connecticut Football Club. In the classroom, Acosta excelled as she was a part of four different honor societies (National, Spanish, English, and Social Studies) and was named to the honor roll in every quarter.
A 5-6 midfielder, Aponte played four seasons at Darien High School in Connecticut, where she was team captain and MVP during her senior season. She earned All-State and First Team All-FCIAC in her final year, while also receiving the Coaches Award. She also played club soccer for the Connecticut Football Club (CFC) which won the ECNL Regional and Northeast Championships in both 2021 and 2022. In 2023, the team made the ECNL Round of 16.
Canet is a 5-3 midfielder, who was a multi-sport athlete at Sachem North High School in New York. A member of both the varsity soccer and track teams, she served as soccer team captain and was among
Newsday's Top 100 Long Island Girls Soccer players. For club soccer, Canet played for NCE Select, which won the 2019 Gothia Cup Championship. In the classroom, she was a member of the National Honor Society and a New York State Scholar Athlete.
A 5-5 forward/midfielder, Chipriano was a four-year member of the soccer and track teams at Blue Mountain High School in Pennsylvania. A three-time First Team All-Schuykill League selection, she was the 2023 Schuykill County Coaches Player of the Year, while also earning PSCA All-State honors in 2022 and 2023 and All-Area honors in 2023. She served as team captain for Blue Mountain, leading the team to the Schuykill League Championship. For club soccer, Chipriano played for FC Revolution, which won the 2023 WPSL Reading United Mid-Atlantic Conference Championship. Academically at Blue Mountain, she was a part of the Phi Sigma National Honor Society and was named Homecoming Queen.
Gardner, a 5-7 forward, was a multi-sport standout at George C. Marshall High School in Virginia in both soccer and track. She earned All-District honors for soccer all four years, while garnering All-Region honors all four seasons for both indoor and outdoor track. She was also Freshman of the Year for both indoor and outdoor track and a senior year captain. For club soccer, Gardner was a part of the Fairfax Brave ECNL 2005, making the U18/U19 All-Conference Team. Academically, she was a four-year scholar athlete and named to the National Art Honor Society. She also was President of GCM Now, a high school news broadcast.
Green, a 5-4 goalkeeper, was a multi-sport student athlete at Sacred Heart Catholic in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada, playing soccer, rugby, and volleyball. She was the 2023 Scholar Athlete of the Year and was named to Team Ontario twice (2022 & 2023). Green additionally was team captain of the volleyball team as a senior. For club soccer, she was a part of North Mississauga 3C, which was a League 1 qualifier in 2023 and a finalist of the FTF Spring Showcase. In the classroom, she was a four-year member of the honor roll.
A 5-7 midfielder, Maguire was a four-year varsity soccer player at Somers High School in New York, serving as team captain. She led Somers to undefeated 2023 League and Section I Championships, while guiding the team to the semifinals of the NYSPHSAA Class AA State Championship. Maguire was the Conference Player of the Year and went on to be named All-State, First Team Class AA All-Star, All-Section 1, and First Team All-League. Additionally, she was named to the final list of the Elite 11 by LoHud.com. For club soccer, Maguire played for Quickstrike Patriots FC, which won the U18 Girls National Championship in 2023, with Maguire earning Best XI Team Honorable Mention accolades. The team also won the 2023 NY State Cup Championship and the 2022 USYS Regional Championship. In the classroom, she was a member of the National Honor Society and the High Honor Roll while receiving the Somers PBA Scholarship for citizenship, academic, and community service achievements, as well as Early Childhood Education Outstanding Participation Award.
Malmros, a 5-6 midfielder, was a four-year soccer starter at The Pennington School in Pennsylvania, winning three MCT Championships (2021-23) two NJSIAA State Championships (2022-23), and one MAPL Championship (2023). She was selected to the All-Prep First Team in 2023 and All-Area Team twice (2022 – First Team; 2023 – Second Team), while being an Academic All-American nominee. Malmros played club soccer for Warrington FC. In the classroom, she has garnered High Honors multiple times, been named to the Dean's List, and was a member of the French Honors Society.
A 5-1 defender, Probst was a four-year varsity soccer player at Immaculate Heart Academy in New Jersey, where she served as team captain. She helped IHA to two Non-Public A State Championships (2021 & 2022), three Non-Public A North Sectional Championships (2020-22), and the 2023 Bergen County Championship. Individually, she picked up All-League honors and was a Non-Public A Final "Star of the Game" in 2021. For club soccer, Probst played for Match Fit Academy ECNL, serving as team captain and earning the 2022-23 Match Fit Team of the Year award. Off the field, she is a member of the National and Science National Honor Societies and received Distinguished Honors.
Reid, a 5-7 defender, was a four-year varsity soccer player at Trumbull High School in Connecticut. She served as team captain as a senior, while earning First Team All-FCIAC in 2022. Like Acosta and Aponte, she also played club soccer for Connecticut Footbal Club (CFC), earning First Team All-NEC for ECNL 1 in 2023.
