Softball Heads to Windy City for Regular Season Finale

The Rams will play a three-game set at Loyola Chicago, with the two tied for third in the A-10 standings

BRONX, N.Y. – Despite already clinching a spot in the postseason a week ago, there is still much to be decided in the final weekend of the 2024 regular season, as Fordham University Softball heads to the Windy City for a three-game series with Loyola Chicago.

Top of the Order

  • Led by a quartet of Rams hitting over .300 this season, Fordham (24-25-1, 14-9 A-10) took the opening game of the series, before Saint Louis would take the final two games of the series, setting up a four way battle for the top seeds in next week's A-10 tournament.

  • In the penultimate weekend of the regular season, the Rams would open with a 3-2 walkoff win in game one as graduate student Michaela Carter drove in a pair of runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.

  • Nicki Sudall has been red hot of late, entering play leading the Rams with an active 10-game hitting streak as the Rams head to Chicago, one better than Michaela Carter who has tallied hits in each of the last nine games.

  • Alongside that duo, Eva Koratsis has reached base safely in each of her last 11 games.

  • Continuing to sit atop the national charts, Fordham sits just third out of 296 Division I schools in doubles as a team with 89 on the year, needing 98 to break the single season program record.

  • The Rams are also second best in the A-10 with 0.54 home runs per game, and second in slugging percentage at .427 as a team, while holding an on base percentage of .365, fourth best in the league.

Playoff Picture

  • With the 2024 Atlantic 10 Championship now less than a week away from first pitch Wednesday afternoon at Bahoshy Field, five of the six teams have already punched their ticket to the Big Apple, including the Rams.

  • Despite that, the top four teams all enter the final series of the regular season in contention for the top-two seeds, which also grants a first-round bye to Thursday's second day of tournament action.

  • The Rams enter the weekend tied with the Ramblers at 14-9 in A-10 play, with the two sitting third and fourth respectively in the conference standings.

  • Dayton currently holds the No. 1 seed in the tournament at 16-7, while Saint Louis at 15-8 are the current No. 2 seed at 15-8, with both teams holding the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Rams.

Ramily Rockstars

  • Leading the Rams are a pair of heavy hitters, capable of doing whatever it takes with the bat to keep their team in the fight. Bailey Enoch and Sydney Wells pace the team in nearly every offensive category, while putting up impressive numbers throughout the season.

  • With 53 hits in 2024, Bailey Enoch leads the Rams in hits and runs scored with 40, while drawing 23 walks, second most of any Fordham player, and enters the weekend with a slash line of .335/.608/.422.

  • One of the top hitters in the nation, Sydney Wells has launched a team-best 11 home runs on the year, while leading the team with 47 RBIs, nearly double the next best mark on the team, while slashing .322/.702/.430.

  • Wells also ranks as the A-10 leader in RBIs per game, placing 27th best in the nation with 1.12 per game, while sitting 98th in the country with 11 home runs and second best in the league. She also ranks second in slugging percentage at .702, and fourth in the conference with 13 doubles on the year, placing her 83rd best in the nation.

  • A threat to hit, walk, and steal bases, there's no avoiding the quickness of Neleh Nogay, who leads the team with 22 stolen bases in 24 attempts, third best in the A-10 and 44th best in all of Division I.

  • Holding teams to just 5.83 hits per seven innings on average, Devon Miller has lit it up from the circle once again this season, placing third in the A-10 in that category, despite being third in the league in innings pitched at 139.1. She also places second in the conference with 118 strikeouts, ranking top-100 in Division I.

Digging for Two

  • All season long, the Rams have raked when it comes to swinging for extra bases, and doubles in particular, as Fordham enters the week ranked third best out of 296 Division I schools in doubles with 89 as a team, and fifth in the nation in doubles per game, averaging 1.78 per contest.

  • The Rams have already tallied the fourth most doubles of any team in program history, needing 90 to crack the top-three and are less than 10 away from breaking the all-time single season record of 97 set in 2008.

  • That stat hasn't come from one source, but a diversified group that sees three of the top four spots in the A-10 for total doubles each locked down by a Fordham Ram. Gianna Sarlo leads the team with 17 doubles, ranked 15th best nationally, while Enoch sits second in the league and 37th in the country with 15. One back of them sits Wells with 13 doubles on the year, ranking 83rd in the country

Midweek Recap

  • Taking game one with a thrilling walk-off victory, 3-2 on Saturday afternoon, Fordham split a pair of games with Saint Louis at Bahoshy Field Saturday afternoon, with the Billikens also taking the rubber game the following day.

  • Devon Miller would pick up the victory in game one, behind a season-high 12 strikeouts, the second most in her collegiate career, while allowing just two earned runs and five hits on the day.

  • Trailing 2-1 and down to their final strike late, Michaela Carter would walk it off for the Rams with a two run single while the bases were loaded to take a 3-2 win in the bottom of the seventh.

Loyola Low Down

  • At 25-21 on the year (14-9 A-10) Loyola Chicago enters the weekend after taking two of three games over Saint Joseph's to hold the No. 3 seed in the conference with one series left to play in the regular season.

  • Sydney Barnett enters play with an OPS of 1.235 with 46 hits and 25 runs scored on the year, while leading the team with 45 RBIs, and has also drawn a team best 30 walks.
