BRONX, N.Y. – Amidst a stretch of eight straight Atlantic 10 Conference games, Fordham University Softball hosts Saint Joseph's in a home doubleheader on Wednesday.
With inclement weather expected later in the afternoon, tomorrow's doubleheader will move up to an 11:30 a.m. start at Bahoshy Field with game two set for 30 minutes after the conclusion of the opener.
Following an 8-1 win at Army on Wednesday, the Rams would push their win streak to a season high seven games with a 6-0 win over Dayton in the series opener with the Flyers Saturday afternoon. The visitors would however take the final two games of the series last weekend, to hold a one game edge over Fordham, for third place in the A-10 standings.
The Rams have consistently been a threat to swing for the fences, and extra bases however they can get them, leading the Atlantic 10 Conference and sitting 18th out of 296 Division I schools in doubles as a team with 70 on the year. Fordham also ranks second in the A-10 in home runs per game and slugging percentage, averaging 0.59 homers per contest while slugging .413 as a team.
Extra bases also mean free bases for the Rams, who have drawn 119 walks this season, placing them fourth best in the A-10 and 93rd in the nation.
With multiple players atop the conference standings, Gianna Sarlo leads the Rams and the A-10 with 13 doubles this season, sitting 38th best in Division I, ahead of a pair of Rams who sit tied for second in the conference, in Bailey Enoch and Sydney Wells.
Wells has been a consistent and dominant threat in the Fordham order this season, ranking amongst the national leaders in numerous offensive categories, including leading the league and ranking 42nd in the nation in RBIs.
Slugging .696 on the year, Wells is second best in the conference and 89th in the country in that category, while pacing the A-10 in total bases with 78. Her 10 home runs in 2024 also lead the conference, and placed her 71st in all of Division I, while sitting second in the A-10 with 12 total doubles.
In addition to sitting tied for second in the conference in doubles, Enoch also enters the week with the sixth best slugging percentage of any A-10 player at .591 this season.
Another tall task sits on the docket for Wednesday, as the Rams welcome in the A-10 leaders in Saint Joseph's who are 12-3 in conference play and riding a two game win streak. The Hawks are third in the A-10 in both batting average and on base percentage, putting runners on in high frequency, while also sitting third in the conference in total doubles.
Following the midweek twin bill, Fordham will pack their bags for a weekend trip to Olean, N.Y. for a three game set at St. Bonaventure on Saturday and Sunday. The Bonnies sit at just 1-13 in A-10 play this season.
