Softball Moves to Friday Start in Weekend Series at UMass

Due to inclement weather, the Rams and Minutewomen will play a doubleheader Friday afternoon

AMHERST, Mass.. – Hitting the road as they return to conference action, Fordham University Softball heads to UMass this weekend for an A-10 set with UMass.

On the Docket

  • The series was originally slated to begin on Saturday, but due to inclement weather will now be moved to a Friday afternoon doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. against the Minutewomen.

National Notables

  • The Rams enter play second in the A-10 in total doubles, which ranks them 53rd best nationally out of 296 Division I schools.

  • With a slugging percentage of .385, the Rams sit third in the conference in that category.

  • Fordham loves to hit for extra bases, ranking second in the league in both doubles per game and home runs per game, while ranking fifth best in the A-10 in triples per game.

  • The Maroon and White also sit second in the conference in fielding percentage at .965 thus far in 2024.

  • Sydney Wells ranks amongst the conference leaders with 28 RBIs, and sits as one of the league leaders in total doubles, doubles per game, and total home runs.

  • Bailey Enoch sits second in the A-10 in total doubles, while three Rams sit tied for fourth best in the conference.

  • Wells and Enoch sit fourth and fifth respectively in the A-10 in slugging percentage, both hitting over .600 coming into the weekend.

  • Holly Beeman's six wins on the year rank fourth best amongst all conference pitchers.

Bronx Bombers

  • Juan Soto and Aaron Judge aren't the only heavy hitters in The Bronx, as a pair of big bats at the top of the Fordham order, Enoch and Wells, have combined for 49 hits, 11 home runs and 41 RBIs.

  • Wells enters Wednesday with a .671 slugging percentage, totaling 22 hits, with 15 of those for extra bases with nine doubles and six home runs.

  • Enoch sits just behind Wells with a .605 slugging percentage, scattering 25 hits with eight doubles, a pair of triples and five home runs.

  • Enoch leads the Rams with 18 runs scored in 2024, ahead of Kate McGuire with 16 and Wells with 12.

Taking Bases

  • Neleh Nogay leads the team with a perfect eight stolen bases in eight tries while Enoch also sits 7-for-7 this season on stolen base attempts.

  • Michaela Carter has drawn a team-high 13 walks, with McGuire, Wells and Enoch all tied for second most with 11 walks apiece.

  • Nine Rams enter Wednesday with at least 10 hits on the year, with Wells leading the batting averages at .316.

Circle This

  • Beeman picked up a pair of victories at the Tiger Invitational, and a win against FDU last week to lead the Rams' pitching core with six of the Rams' wins on the year.

  • The sophomore right-hander has thrown 26 strikeouts in 63.1 innings pitched.

  • With eight starts on the year, graduate Devon Miller enters Wednesday with four wins after tossing 14.0 innings of shutout ball in a pair of wins over Rhode Island last weekend while throwing 58 strikeouts in 72.1 innings pitched.

A-10 Opening Weekend

  • Stepping away from conference play to close their homestand Wednesday afternoon, Fordham defeated Iona, 9-5.

  • Fordham would tally the first run of the game in the bottom of the first, but Iona would take a 4-1 lead with a big rally in the third. Bouncing back with two runs in the fourth, the rain began to fall and so did the runs as the Rams exploded for six runs in the fifth to break open a 9-4 lead, before giving up just one more to Iona in the final two innings.

  • Sydney Wells would finish the day 2-for-4 with four RBIs, while Nicki Sudall finished 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs, one of five Rams to tally a run Wednesday.

  • The Maroon and White would scatter 11 hits from seven different batters, with eight Rams coming around to score.

  • Olivia Simcoe would pick up her first collegiate win in the circle, tossing three innings of one-run ball to help her side to the victory.

Understand UMass

  • At just 5-18 in 2024, UMass picked up its first conference win to close last weekend, defeating Saint Louis 5-4.

  • The Minutewomen are coming off a 7-0 loss to UMass Lowell last time out on Wednesday.

What's On Deck

  • Fordham will take another break from league action as they take on Missouri in a neutral site meeting with the Tigers at 2:00 p.m.
