Softball Closes Homestand Wednesday Against Iona

BRONX, N.Y. – Stepping away from conference play for a single game Wednesday afternoon, Fordham University softball closes a six-game homestand against Iona. 

On the Docket

  • Fordham and the Gaels will square off at 3:00 p.m. from Bahoshy Field with the game streaming live on ESPN+.

National Notables

  • The Rams enter conference play leading the A-10 in doubles as a team with 40 this season, which ranks 45th best nationally out of 296 Division I schools.

  • Fordham loves to hit for extra bases, ranking second in the league in both doubles per game and home runs per game, while ranking third best in the A-10 in triples per game.

  • Sydney Wells ranks second in the conference with 24 RBIs, and sits as the league leader in total doubles, doubles per game, and total home runs.

  • Bailey Enoch sits tied for third in the league lead in doubles with two other Rams, while sitting fourth in the league in doubles per game.

  • Enoch also sits second in the conference in home runs, while leading the league in total bases with 51.

  • Wells and Enoch sit fourth and fifth respectively in the A-10 in slugging percentage, both hitting over .620 coming into the weekend.

Bronx Bombers

  • Juan Soto and Aaron Judge aren't the only heavy hitters in The Bronx, as a pair of big bats at the top of the Fordham order, Enoch and Wells, have combined for 46 hits, 11 home runs and 36 RBIs.

  • Wells enters Wednesday with a .644 slugging percentage, totaling 22 hits, with 13 of those for extra bases with seven doubles and six home runs.

  • Enoch sits just behind Wells with a .622 slugging percentage, scattering 24 hits with eight doubles, a pair of triples and five home runs.

  • The duo also sit first and second for the Rams with 16 and 15 runs scored, respectively, while Kate McGuire sits third on the team with 11.

Taking Bases

  • Neleh Nogay leads the team with a perfect eight stolen bases in eight tries while Enoch also sits 6-for-6 this season on stolen base attempts.

  • Michaela Carter has drawn a team-high 13 walks, with McGuire, Wells and Enoch all tied for second most with 11 walks apiece.

  • Nine Rams enter Wednesday with at least 10 hits on the year, with Wells leading the batting averages at .301.

  • Beeman picked up a pair of victories at the Tiger Invitational, and the win against FDU in the midweek to lead the Rams' pitching core with six of the Rams' 10 wins on the year.

A-10 Opening Weekend

  • Opening conference play with a three-game set against Rhode Island, the Rams split the opening day of league action, with the home side taking a 3-0 win to start the day. Fordham would take the series win Sunday in the rubber game in a 6-0 victory, a second complete game shutout for Miller.

  • Devon Miller picked up the win in game one, tossing a complete game, one-hitter while striking out eight Rhode Island batters in the process. Miller would break the scoring open with the first run of the game in the fourth, before a pair of runs in the fifth gave Fordham a 3-0 win.

  • In the rubber game of the opening Atlantic 10 series of the 2024 campaign, Fordham blanked Rhode Island 6-0, Sunday afternoon. 

  • In her second complete game of the for her side in as many days, Miller would pick up the win, combining for 14.0 innings of scoreless pitching and a pair of wins across the two starts, giving up just three hits Sunday afternoon.

  • After splitting the first two games of the series on Saturday, the Battle of the Rams saw Fordham jump out to a 2-0 lead in the fourth before adding three more runs in the following inning, and one more for good measure in the sixth.

Looking Into Iona

  • At just 3-13 on the year, Iona is on a seven game losing streak, with the last win coming in the front end of a doubleheader with Lipscomb on Mar. 8

  • The Gaels are coming off a pair of doubleheader losses to Holy Cross and Boston College last weekend in Massachusetts.

  • Kayla Haywood leads the team hitting .326 with 14 runs and eight runs scored, while Kaylin Flukey leads Iona with seven RBIs.

What's On Deck

  • Fordham jumps back into A-10 play this weekend with a three game set at UMass beginning with a doubleheader Saturday, followed by a single game Sunday afternoon.
