Softball Opens A-10 Play Against Rhode Island

The Battle of the Rams features a three-game set, starting with a doubleheader Saturday at Noon

BRONX, N.Y. – Opening the Atlantic 10 portion of the 2024 calendar, Fordham University softball takes on Rhode Island in a three game set at Bahoshy Field this weekend.

On the Docket

  • The Battle of the Rams kicks off with a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. followed by a single game at noon on Sunday with all games streaming live on ESPN+.

National Notables

  • The Rams enter conference play leading the A-10 in doubles as a team with 34 this season, which ranks 58th best nationally out of 296 Division I schools.

  • Fordham loves to hit for extra bases, ranking second in the league in both doubles per game and home runs per game, while ranking third best in the A-10 in triples per game.

  • Sydney Wells ranks second in the conference with 20 RBIs, and sits as the league leader in RBI's per game, total doubles, doubles per game, total home runs, and home runs per game.

  • Bailey Enoch sits tied for the league lead in doubles per game with Wells, while sitting tied for third in total doubles alongside Eva Koratsis.

  • Enoch also sits second in the conference in home runs, while leading the league in total bases with 46, one ahead of Wells for second.

  • Wells and Enoch sit third and fifth respectively in the A-10 in slugging percentage, both hitting over .620 coming into the weekend.

  • Holly Beeman's six wins on the year rank third best amongst all conference pitchers, and 106th best in the country.

Bronx Bombers

  • Juan Soto and Aaron Judge aren't the only heavy hitters in The Bronx, as a pair of big bats at the top of the Fordham order, Enoch and Wells, have combined for 41 hits, 11 home runs and 32 RBIs.

  • Wells enters Wednesday with a .692 slugging percentage, totaling 20 hits, with 13 of those for extra bases with seven doubles and six home runs.

  • Enoch sits just behind Wells with a .622 slugging percentage, scattering 21 hits with six doubles, a pair of triples and five home runs.

  • The duo also sit first and third for the Rams with 13 and 11 runs scored, respectively, while Kate McGuire sits second with 12.

Taking Bases

  • Enoch also sits 5-for-5 this season on stolen base attempts, while Neleh Nogay sits 4-for-4.

  • Michaela Carter has drawn a team-high 13 walks, with McGuire sitting second with nine, and Wells and Enoch one back of that with eight apiece.

  • Eight Rams enter Wednesday with at least 10  hits on the year, with McGuire leading the batting averages at .321 this year.

  • With the third most hits of any player, the Fordham shortstop has tallied 18 hits and 12 runs scored, second best on the team.

Circle This

  • Beeman picked up a pair of victories at the Tiger Invitational, and the win against FDU in the midweek to lead the Rams' pitching core with six of the Rams' eight wins on the year.

  • The sophomore right-hander has thrown 25 strikeouts in 59.0 innings pitched, the most of any Fordham hurler through non-conference action.

  • Tied for the team high in games started with eight, graduate Devon Miller enters Wednesday with a pair of wins under her belt, while fanning a team best 43 batters in 58.1 innings pitched.

Wednesday vs. FDU

  • The weather forecast Wednesday afternoon all but described today as a beautiful day for a ballgame, and in a pair of games at Bahoshy Field, Fordham closed the day with a 10-0 win over FDU to split a doubleheader with the Knights.

  • A pitchers duel for much of game one, Miller would not allow a base runner through five innings, before FDU rallied to pull a 3-1 win in game one.

  • Game two would see the Rams score multiple times in each of the first three innings to take a 7-0 lead, before ending via run-rule 10-0 on a three-run home run in the fifth.

  • Scattering 10 of their 13 hits Wednesday in game two, Enoch and Wells would tally three hits apiece to lead the Rams, while Gianna Sarlo tallied four RBIs and Eva Koratsis finished with three.

Rating Rhody

  • Entering conference play, Rhode Island sits at just 2-16 on the year, earning one of those victories in a split doubleheader at Tennessee Tech on Tuesday.

  • Hitting .286 on the year, Rhody is led by Elena Gonzalez who is one of three players with 14 hits, alongside Cassie Swenson and Leilyn Alvarez.

What's On Deck

  • Fordham will close the homestand Wednesday, Mar. 20, with a single game at Bahoshy Field against Iona at 3:00 p.m.
