Box Score 2 CLEMSON, S.C. – Splitting the final day of action at the Tiger Invitational, Fordham University softball defeated Longwood early Sunday before falling to the hosts Clemson in the second game of the afternoon.
Rocking a pair of solo homers in the first, the Rams would take an early lead over Longwood in game one, and follow it with three more in the following inning. After the Lancers cut the lead to two, Fordham would score two more in the top of the seventh, before seeing out the final three outs to take a 7-3 win. No. 10/11 Clemson would take a 2-0 lead early in game two, before going on to take a 12-0 win later in the day.
With a pair of RBI's in game one, Sydney Wells would tally a solo home run, her sixth of the year, while Bailey Enoch would also go yard in game one. Five different Rams would tally an RBI against Lancers, while Holly Beeman would take the win in the early portion of the day.
Fordham would open the scoring in game one early, slamming a pair of solo shots in the inning to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Small ball offense would see Fordham tack on three more runs, all on singles by Wells, Neleh Nogay, and Michaela Carter to put the Rams up 2-0 through two.
Holly Beeman would keep the Lancers off the board for the first three plus innings, before Longwood broke through for three runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut into the lead.
Staying scoreless from there, Fordham would tack on two additional runs in the top of the seventh from Enoch and Gianna Sarlo to reopen a five-run lead, which Beeman would see out in the circle for her fifth win of the campaign and second this weekend.
The Tigers would score two in the top of the first in game two, playing as the away side, before the Rams would force Clemson to go to the bullpen without recording an out in the bottom of the first. After seeing Fordham load the bases with a walk and back-to-back singles, a quick double play would help the Tigers work out of a jam and hold a 2-0 lead after one.
The Tigers would score three more in the third, and one in the fourth, before Fordham held Clemson off the board for the first time in the fifth. Clemson would scatter six more runs late in the game setting the final line.
The Rams will open a six game homestand Wednesday afternoon, hosting FDU in a doubleheader at Bahoshy field at 1:00 p.m. The midweek bout with the Knights will serve as the final prep for Fordham before opening Atlantic 10 play against Rhode Island next weekend.
