FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Venturing up I-95 to the Nutmeg State this weekend, Fordham University softball heads to Sacred Heart for a single game Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
On the Docket
Originally slated for a doubleheader Saturday afternoon, inclement weather has forced the Rams and Pioneers to move to Sunday, playing just a single game. The game will be broadcast live on NEC Front Row.
Running Through the Order
Eva Koratsis leads the Rams through the first 10 games of the year, tallying team best eight hits including three doubles, and sits second in RBIs with six. Sydney Wells has tallied a pair of home runs for Fordham, while leading in RBIs with seven.
Kate McGuire and Bailey Enoch each sit tied with Wells for the second most hits on the team with seven apiece. In the circle, Devon Miller has tallied a 1.73 ERA through 28.1 innings pitched, earning two wins while giving up just seven earned runs in six appearances.
The Silicon Valley Classic
Another game that featured some late inning heroics by the Rams offense Friday night, Fordham defeated Santa Clara 3-1 to split day one at the Silicon Valley Classic last weekend.
Sydney Wells would highlight the day as she plated three of the Rams' four runs across the afternoon, including a solo home run in game one against Nevada. She would come through in a clutch moment in the nightcap against Santa Clara, giving her side two runs in the top half of the seventh to secure a 3-1 victory over the host Broncos. In the circle, Devon Miller would earn the win in a complete game effort, giving up just one run and striking out four Broncos on the night.
Closing the weekend in dramatic fashion, Fordham University Softball defeated Portland State 6-5 in extra innings Sunday to close the Silicon Valley Classic.
Dominating on the offensive end early in the day the Rams would take a 2-0 lead early, before doubling their advantage in the fifth. Portland State would add a run back in the top of the sixth, before a three-run rally in the seventh sent the game into extra innings. After a quiet eighth inning, the Vikings would take their first lead of the game, but the Rams answered right back with a triple from Bailey Enoch and a single by Mikayla Swan on the first two at-bats in the ninth to take the win.
Miller Makes Headlines
In 16.0 innings pitched at the Silicon Valley Classic this weekend, Miller gave up 10 hits and just one earned run, while striking out 10 batters, and earning the win in one of her two starts, a complete game victory over Santa Clara.
Scouting Sacred Heart
Sacred Heart opened the year 1-4 at the UNC Greensboro tournament last weekend, but earned their first victory of the year in the final game Sunday, defeating Drexel 3-2. In 15 plate appearances Emily Carroll is hitting .467 with seven hits and three runs scored, along with a pair of RBIs. In the circle Emily Heath tallied three of the five decisions for the Pioneers pitching staff, giving up seven earned runs in 14.0 inning pitched.
