Hampton, Va. – (February 21, 2024) – The 2024 Atlantic 10 Swimming & Diving Championship is underway at the Hampton Aquaplex in Hampton, Virginia.
After two women's events, Fordham is in second place with 66 points, behind only George Washington, while in the men's competition, the Rams are in sixth place with 60 points.
The opening event of the championship was the 200 medley relay, which turned into a good start for the Rams. The women's team of
Jane Brown,
Emma Shaughnessy,
Jessica Zebrowski, and
Manon Compagner earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honors and the silver medal in a school record time of 1:39.67. The time bested last year's record of 1:40.17.
The men's squad repeated that effort, as
Christian Taylor,
Noah Althoff,
Guy Gropper, and
Alexander Shah grabbed silver and Second Team All-League honors in a school record mark of 1:26.19, bettering their record mark from earlier this year by almost two seconds (1:28.04).
In the lone individual event on day one,
Marco Petit scored 165.55 in the one-meter dive, placing 21
st overall.
The first evening of finals concluded with the 800 freestyle relay and three more school records being set. The women's team of
Ainhoa Martin,
Alison Lin,
Leire Martin, and
Emilie Krog took bronze with a school record time of 7:18.45, breaking the team's 2010 record of 7:20.82. As a part of today's relay,
Ainhoa Martin also broke the 200 freestyle mark with a split time of 1:47.91, besting Paulina Watson's 2019 record of 1:48.53.
In the men's 800 freestyle relay, the Rams' squad of
Alex Wilhelm,
Noah Althoff,
Vitalis Onu, and
Wojciech Dutkowiak placed sixth with a school record time of 6:33.71, shaving off two seconds of the record from earlier this season (6:35.86).
Day two of the Atlantic 10 Championship will feature the 50 and 500 freestyle events, the 200 individual medley, the women's one-meter dive and the 200 freestyle relay. Preliminaries begin at 10:00 AM with the finals at 6:00 PM.
