Box Score 2 SAN JOSE, Calif. – An extremely long day two in the Golden State saw very little shine in the sky, as Fordham University softball battled the elements all day long in a pair of defeats at San Jose State.
The Rams would open the day with a 10:00 a.m. first pitch local time against the Wolfpack, a game that would see the two teams combine for 20 runs in the contest, as Nevada took the game 13-7.
Game two kicked off nearly 90 minutes later than originally scheduled, with multiple stoppages in the other games being played Saturday due to inclement weather as Fordham fell 5-4 despite scoring two runs after returning to action from the delay.
With four RBIs on a pair of doubles in the two games Eva Koratsis would lead the Rams on offense, while also scoring a run in game one. Gianna Sarlo would tally her first two RBIs of the season in the early part of the day with a single and a double in the afternoon. Bailey Enoch would round out the offensive highlights for the Rams, starting the day with a leadoff home run against Nevada.
Despite a 4:46 PST start, the Rams would take a two run lead through their first four turns at the dish, loading the bases in the second and fourth innings to force in a pair of runs. A strong bottom half of the inning by the home Spartans would see San Jose State take a 5-2 lead, just before weather forced the teams into an extended delay.
A nearly 80 minute stoppage would see the sides return to the field just after 7:30 in the top of the fifth. The Rams would cut the lead to one in the sixth as Koratsis drove a double to the outfield to score a pair, but the comeback effort would fall just short as the home side held on for a 5-4 win, with the game ending at 8:12 p.m.
Fordham closes the Silicon Valley Classic Sunday afternoon with a single game against Portland State at 3:30 p.m. EST on the campus of San Jose State.
