Women’s Soccer Continues Atlantic 10 Play on Thursday

Rams Host St. Bonaventure on Thursday, while Taking on Yale This Monday

Bronx, N.Y. – (September 20, 2023) – After a solid beginning to conference play, the Fordham women's soccer team is back on the pitch on Thursday night to continue league play against St. Bonaventure on Pride Night before hosting a non-league match against Yale for Faculty Appreciation Night on Monday.

The Rams (3-4-2, 1-0-1 A-10) earned four out of a possible six points last week, posting a 4-2 win over George Mason and a 0-0 draw at George Washington.  The Rams were one of six teams to record four points or better in week one of conference play.

Fordham rallied back from a 2-0 deficit to score four times in just over 20 minutes to defeat George Mason, while playing the Revolutionaries to a 0-0 draw that saw Kyla King record her third shutout of the season.

Fordham welcomes St. Bonaventure to Moglia Stadium on Thursday night.  The Bonnies are 2-2-5 on the season with a 1-0-1 conference record.  They began Atlantic 10 play with a draw with Dayton and a win over Davidson.  St. Bonaventure has been very stingy on defense, allowing one goal or less in five contests, and is led by goalkeeper Chiara Gottinger, who has 44 saves and an .815 save percentage.  Offensively, Olivia Allen has a team-best three goals and three assists for nine points.

The Rams host Yale on Monday night for the final non-league match of the year.  The Bulldogs will have a match with Dartmouth on Saturday prior to their match with the Rams.  Yale enters the week at 4-1-2, having gone 3-0-1 in their last four contests.  Ellie Rappole is the Bulldogs' leading scorer with three goals and an assist for seven points, while goalkeeper Marisa Shorrock has played all but 11 minutes this season, making 33 saves.

SERIES HISTORY: This will be the 27th all-time meeting between Fordham and St. Bonaventure, with the Rams leading the series at 18-6-2.  Fordham has won seven of the last nine meetings, which includes last year's meeting at St. Bonaventure, a 1-0 decision that saw Kristen Cocozza net the lone goal of the game.

For Fordham and Yale, Monday's meeting will only be the fourth between the schools.  Yale has won each of the previous three meetings in 2018, 2019, and 2022.  Last year's game was a 1-0 decision in favor of the Bulldogs on a goal by Ashley Kirschner.

LAST TIME OUT (9/14): Behind three saves by Kyla King, the Fordham Rams picked up a point in their Atlantic 10 women's soccer match at George Washington in a 0-0 draw at the GW Soccer Complex.

The first half saw 14 shots between the two teams, but only one was on frame.  George Washington's Aoi Kataoka had a chance from just inside the top of the box.  Fordham's Kyla King made a diving stop to her left for her first save of the match.

Fordham forced a save to be made in the 64th minute, as Caroline Monahan tested Grace Crowe to the near post that Crowe deflected away and caught.  The Rams had two more chances that turned into a pair of saves by Crowe in the final two minutes, but that was all for the match, ending in a 0-0 draw.

Each team finished with 16 shots overall with only seven of the 32 on frame.  King finished with three saves for her third shutout of the season, while Crowe was credited with four saves over the final 45 minutes.

LENA JOHNSEN NAMED ATLANTIC 10 ROOKIE OF THE WEEK (9/18): The Atlantic 10 Conference released its weekly women's soccer awards on Monday with Fordham freshman midfielder Lena Johnsen selected as the league's Rookie of the Week.  This is Johnsen's first career weekly award and the first for a Ram this season.

Johnsen played a big part in Fordham's comeback win over George Mason on Thursday night.  With Fordham trailing 2-1, she netted the game-tying goal against the Patriots and later assisted on the game-winning goal.  She also added a pair of shots in the Rams' 0-0 draw at George Washington to close out her week.  Through nine games this season, Johnsen is tied for second on the Rams in scoring with two goals and two assists for six points.
