Bronx, N.Y. – As we continue to breakdown the 2023 Fordham Rams, we move to the wide receivers and tight ends.
Despite the graduation of two of the top three receivers from 2022, the Rams still have a plethora of experience returning this fall.
Leading the way is graduate student
MJ Wright, a preseason All-American and 2022 All-Patriot League selection, who was second on the team last year with 62 receptions while his 1,156 receiving yards and eleven touchdowns were both third best on the squad.
Also returning is senior
Mekai Felton, a preseason All-Patriot League pick, who caught 37 passes for 525 yards and six scores last fall.
Grad student
Garrett Cody also returns at wide out for the Rams after grabbing 14 passes for 303 yards and five touchdowns last year.
Senior
Cole Thornton, who also returned punts last fall for the Rams, returns as does sophomore
Elijah Matos, who missed the 2022 season with an injury. Sophomore
Jack Betten moves over to wide receiver after playing in the defensive backfield last fall.
Newcomers at wide receiver for the Rams include freshmen
Jabril Carter,
Michael Doctor,
Michael Donegan,
Joey Duggan,
Ricky Gonzalez II,
KJ Reed, and
Nodin Tracy.
Carter is a local product who played his high school football at Mt. St. Michael Academy here in the Bronx while Doctor hails from Buffalo where he had had 57 receptions in 2022 as a member of the
Canisius squad.
Donegan arrives at Rose Hill after a high school career at Marist High School in Illinois while Gonzalez was a First Team Division 1 All-State selection at
Antonian Prep in San Antonio last year. Duggan was a two-way player at Noble & Greenough School in Dedham, Mass., where he earned All-State and All-Area honors. Reed was a 2022 First Team All-League selection at Mission Viejo High School in California while Tracy was a First Team
WPIAL All-Conference pick at West Alleghany High School in Pennsylvania.
At tight end the Rams return all four players who lined up at the position last year, led by senior
Jeff Ciccio, who had eight receptions last year with one touchdown, and junior
Jaden Allen, who had three catches last year, two for touchdowns.
Also back at tight end are sophomores
Matt Buron, who hauled in a scoring pass in the Albany win last year,
Matty Weir, who did not see action as a freshman, and
Patrick Montgomery, who appeared in one game as a rookie last fall.
Season and individual game tickets for the 2023 home season are now on sale through the
Fordham Athletic Ticket Office.
