Amherst, Mass. – (May 6, 2023) – Day one of the 2023 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championship has concluded at the UMass Track & Field Complex in Amherst, Massachusetts with the Fordham men sitting in eighth place out of 13 teams.
Rhode Island leads after seven scored events on day one with 78 points, followed by George Mason (62), VCU (41), Massachusetts (25), La Salle (22), Davidson (16), Loyola Chicago (10), and Fordham (9) to round out the top eight.
The Rams scored in two events on day one, beginning right away in the first track event of the day, the 10,000-meter run.
Steven Zucca just missed a podium finish, taking fourth overall in a season-best time of 30:01.56, bettering his IC4A qualifying mark.
Ryan Fahey also took part in the 10K run, placing 22
nd in 31:52.15.
Fordham's other scorer came on the field event side, where
Michael Croke took fifth in the pole vault, clearing a season-best mark of 14' 6".
Justin Rhee also competing in the field events on Saturday, placing 17
th overall in the long jump with a season-best mark of 21' 8 ¾".

Aside from the two scorers, Fordham also had three Rams qualify for Sunday finals, starting with the 100-meter dash, where
Christian Weddington qualified ninth in 10.72 seconds.
Kenneth Maxwell missed out on the final in 12
th overall in 10.84 seconds.
Then in the 800-meter run,
Zalen Nelson and
Ben Borchers both qualified for the Sunday final. Nelson qualified second in a season-best time of 1:50.46, while Borchers was third in 1:51.23. Additionally,
Yariv Simhony placed 13
th in the event (1:53.62) with
Christopher Strzelinski in 28
th (1:57.47).
Fordham also had competitors in the 200- and 400-meter events, as well as the steeplechase and decathlon. In the 400 meters,
Matthew Nurse was the top finisher, taking 12
th in 48.87 seconds with
Kevin Callaghan in 15
th (49.63) and
Safo Kirton in 24
th (51.36).
Nurse was also Fordham's top time in the 200-meter dash at 22.09 seconds, good for 12
th, followed by Maxwell in 17
th (22.52), Weddington in 19
th (22.71), and
Liam Volz in 21
st (23.19).
Nicholas Grabarz was the top Ram in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 12
th at 9:59.39, while
George Pomer currently sits in sixth place in the decathlon with 2,684 points. Within the decathlon, he was fourth in the high jump (6' ½"), fifth in the 400 meters (54.95), sixth in the long jump (18' 5 ¼"), and eighth in the 100 meters (12.60) and shot put (26' 11").
The Championship concludes on Sunday with the first event starting at 9:15 AM.
