Box Score Kingston, R.I. – Fordham softball kicked off its three-game series at Rhode Island in style, dominating the rival Rams, 10-0, in six innings. With the victory, the Bronx Rams improve to 13-17 overall and 4-3 in Atlantic 10 play, while Rhode Island falls to 11-19 and 4-5, respectively.
Fordham wasted no time in getting the scoring started, plating three runs in the opening frame.
Michaela Carter and
Neleh Nogay each singled to the third,
Bailey Enoch walked to load the bases, Carter scored on a
Sydney Wells sacrifice fly, and
Eva Koratsis drove in the first two of her season-high six runs with a single up the middle. The Rams totaled five singles and a walk in the first alone, part of a season-high 14 knocks on the day.
After three scoreless innings, the Rams struck again for three in the fifth, all with two outs. With two runners in scoring position, Koratsis placed a double down the left field line to score both and came in on
Sarah Taffet's single up the middle. In the top of the sixth, Enoch drove in Nogay with a single then scored on
Julia Martine's hit up the middle to make it an eight-run game. Koratsis then drove in two more with a bloop single to center to cap the scoring.
Nogay produced her second 4-for-4 performance of the season, scoring three times, while Koratsis and Taffet each tallied a trio of hits. Enoch also reached safely and scored thrice, walking twice and singling, while Martine also had a multi-hit day at the plate.
Devon Miller tossed her 12
th career shutout, moving past Chelsea Plimpton ('11) for solo sixth all-time, and also past Courtney Collins ('02) for ninth all-time with 57 starts. The senior limited Rhody to five baserunners with two strikeouts.
Saturday brings a doubleheader to close the series out, beginning at noon on ESPN3.
