Lions Outdoor Invitational Results
Philadelphia, Pa./Ewing, N.J. – (April 29, 2023) – The weather continued to cause problems, but the Fordham track & field team was able to complete their stays at both the Penn Relays and Lions Outdoor Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
In Philadelphia, the Rams competed in three finals, beginning with the men's 4x100 relay Eastern final. Fordham's group of
Liam Volz,
Kenneth Maxwell,
Matthew Nurse, and
Christian Weddington made their mark, finishing fourth in a school record time of 41.87 seconds. Their time bested the previous record of 42.03, set in 1989 by Steve Sharpe, Ricky Jones, Frank Donalds, and Wayne Seaton.
Next was the college women's 4x800 relay event, where the Rams' team of
Helen Connolly,
Marin Bogulski,
Mary Kathryn Underwood, and
Jilli Jones placed tenth in a season-best time of 9:05.47.
The last event at the Penn Relays for Fordham was the men's 4x400 relay Eastern final. Fordham took silver in the event with the team of
Kevin Callaghan,
Erik Brown,
Zalen Nelson, and Nurse, placing second in a season-best time of 3:16.51.
In New Jersey at the Lions Outdoor Invitational, Fordham had a handful of competitors on Saturday with the Rams' best event being the women's 400-meter hurdles.
Sophia Crucs finished third in the event at 1:08.85 with
Kylie Ritz in seventh at 1:11.68.

Amanda Gurth also had a top-five on the day, finishing fifth in the women's shot put with a season-best mark of 37' 10".
The remaining women's competitors included
Ileana Chlorou in the 100 meters (13
th – 13.26),
Michele Daye in the 200 meters (11
th – 1:04.62), and the trio of
Carolyn Cardell (14
th – 5:11.52),
Helen Moloney (25
th – 5:22.16), and
Emmy Longmore (36
th – 5:51.78) in the 1,500 meters.
On the men's side,
George Pomer placed 19
th in the long jump (18' ¼") and 45
th in the 100-meter dash (12.58).
Jonah Coleman also ran in the 100 meters, placing 28
th in 11.99 seconds.
Safo Kirton was the best finish for the Rams, taking 12
th in the 400-meter dash in 51.83 seconds, while
John Arvantides was 24
th in the 1,500 meters at 4:19.41.
Fordham now sets its sights on the 2023 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championship, which will be held May 6-7 at the University of Massachusetts.
