Jamaica, N.Y. – The Fordham men's tennis team traveled to Queens today where the Rams fell to St. John's University, 6-1, at The Courts at St. John's.
"This was one of the best teams we have played against all year and we were close to taking the doubles point," said head coach
David Slater. "On top of that Quinn had one of the best wins of the season against a St. John's player who has been nationally ranked this year. Two more singles matches went to a third set, which we lost in third set match tiebreaks. A great team effort getting us ready for the A-10's."
The Rams opened play dropping the doubles point.
Quinn Fender and
Nicholas Kanazirev won at first doubles, 6-4, but Fordham dropped the other two doubles matches by identical 6-4 scores.
Fender picked up a point for Fordham with a 1-6, 6-2, 10-8 win at first singles and
Toi Kobayashi and
Sampras Rakotondrainibe went to a third set tiebreaker at fourth and sixth singles, respectively.
On Saturday, the men's team hosted their Senior Day despite the match with Saint Joseph's being canceled by expected weather. The Rams honored senior
