Neleh Nogay Named Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week

Freshman Batted .750 with Nine Hits, Three Runs, and Three Steals over Four Games

Newport News, Va. – Fordham softball freshman outfielder Neleh Nogay has been named the Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon. It is her first collegiate accolade.

"Nelly had a good weekend putting the ball in play." Head coach Melissa Inouye said, "It's been nice to see the adjustments she's made throughout the season. Her confidence seems to grow each week."

Nogay has been tremendous since the schedule turned to conference season, batting an absurd .593 through nine league contests, all starts, with a team-high 16 hits, six runs, and five stolen bases. Over the last week while the Rams went 2-2, the New Castle, Pa. native batted a scorching .750 with nine singles, three runs, three stolen bases, and two walks, recording at least one hit in three contests and reaching base safely thrice in the other.

Against Hofstra in nonconference action, Nogay went 2-for-3 with a theft then matched her season-high with a 4-for-4 performance in the series-opening victory at Rhode Island on Friday, scoring three times and stealing another base. In game one of Saturday's doubleheader, she singled twice and stole a third base then singled and walked twice in the series finale.

For the year, Nogay has quickly raised her average 100 points over the past few weeks, now slahing .395/.432/.408 on the year with team-highs of 30 hits and 10 steals, while committing just one error in the outfield.

Nogay and the Rams return to action on Wednesday at St. John's at 3 p.m.
