2021 NFF Hampshire Honor Society Membership Announced

Nick Zakelj were selected to the 2021 National Football Foundation (NFF) Hampshire Honor Society it was announced by the NFF & College Football Hall of Fame. They are six of 34 Patriot League student-athletes to be selected to the team.

The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) announced today the members of the 2022 NFF Hampshire Honor Society, which is comprised of college football players from all divisions of the NCAA, NAIA and sprint football who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college careers.

An elite group of 1,564 players from 314 schools qualified for membership in 2022, the Society's 16th year. The 1,564 honorees are the second most in a single year during the program's history. The initiative has now honored 14,645Â student-athletes since its inception.

"Over the last 16 years, the Hampshire Honor Society has served as a powerful vehicle for schools to recognize their college football players who have distinguished themselves both academically and athletically, and we congratulate the schools and each of these young men for their commitment to excellence in all aspects of their lives."

Nominated by their respective schools, members of the NFF Hampshire Honor Society must have:
- Completed their final year of playing eligibility in Fall 2021;
- Graduated players, who have remaining eligibility but will not return to collegiate play (e.g. declared for NFL Draft or retired from football), may also be nominated.
- Attained a minimum undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.2 (4.0 scale);
- Met all NCAA/NAIA-mandated progress towards degree requirements; and
- Been starters or significant contributors throughout the 2021 season.

Deondre Carter (Gr., DL, Cedar Hill, Texas/Cedar Hill)
• Started all eleven games on the defensive line
• Made 44 total tackles, eleven solo, including 4.5 for loss and 1.5 sacks
• Also recovered two fumbles and had three quarterback hurries
• Made seven tackles in season opener at Nebraska

Zach Davis (Sr., RB, Wallingford, Conn./Sheehan)
• Appeared in five games at running back in an injury-shortened season
• Rushed 59 times for 273 yards and four touchdowns
• Tied for team lead with four rushing touchdowns
• Also caught nine passes for 50 yards

Antonio Cortez Feria (Sr., RB, Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou)
• Appeared in all eleven games, both at running back and on special teams
• Rushed 42 times for 208 yards and two touchdowns
• Also caught one pass for eight yards
• Made three tackles on special teams

Nick Leinenweber (Sr., PK, Neptune Beach, Fla./Episcopal School)
• Handled the placekicking chores for the Rams in 2021
• Connected on seven of nine field goal attempts with a long of 39 yards
• Made good on 47 of 48 PATs
• Second on team in scoring with 68 points

Jaden Vazquez (Sr., LB, Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty)
• Appeared in seven games, both at linebacker and on special teams
• Made 13 total tackles, seven solo, including 1.5 for loss
• Recorded a season-high seven stops in the Homecoming win over Wagner

Nick Zakelj (Sr., OL, Broadview Heights, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights)
• Started all eleven games at left tackle
• Helped Rams led the Patriot League and ranked eleventh in the NCAA FCS in passing offense (296.7 yards/game) and lead the League and rank 12th in the NCAA FCS in total offense (447.5 yards/game)
• Helped Rams ranked second in the PL and 18th in the NCAA FCS in scoring offense (33.6 points/game)
• Helped Rams lead the PL and rank 22nd in the NCAA in fewest sacks allowed (1.36/game) and lead the League and rank ninth in the NCAA in TFLs allowed/game (3.91/game)
• One of just 24 players in League history to earn All-League honors all four years
• Four-year starter
• 2021 team captain
