Bronx, N.Y. - We continue our position-by-position breakdown of the 2021 Fordham football Rams today with a look at the wide receivers and tight ends.
Much like the running back position, the Rams have an abundance of quality and experience at wide receiver, returning not one, but two, preseason first team All-Patriot League selections in senior
Fotis Kokosioulis and junior
Dequece Carter.
Last spring, Kokosioulis earned first team All-Patriot League honors after catching 20 passes for 278 yards and one touchdown. He led the team in receptions and receiving yards and was tops in the League in receiving yards/game (92.7). He was also second in the Patriot League in receptions/game (6.7) and total receiving yards.
Carter was also a First Team All-Patriot League pick last spring, grabbing 19 passes for 274 yards and two touchdowns. He was second in the League is touchdown receptions, receiving yards, receiving yards/game (91.3), and receptions/game (6.7).
Other returning receivers include seniors
Hamze El-Zayat,
Edward Schwartz, Jr., and
Hunter Harris, juniors
MJ Wright,
Garrett Cody,
Dan Byrnes, and
Joe Mariani, and sophomores
Mekai Felton,
Cole Thornton,
Evan Harkin.
El-Zayat caught seven passes for 90 yards in the spring, six of those at Holy Cross, while Schwartz did not see action as a junior. Harris missed the past two seasons with an injury but looks to return to form in 2021.
Wright enjoyed a successful sophomore season catching 13 passes for 149 yards with two touchdowns while Cody appeared in all three spring games, hauling in four passes. Byrnes also played in all three games in the spring, catching three passes for 21 yards while Mariani has seen limited action in his first two years at Fordham.
Felton picked up some experience as a freshman, appearing in two games, while Thornton and Harkin saw limited action as rookies.
Freshman
Nate Summerville, a First Team All-County and First Team All-South Jersey selection at Shawnee High School, is the lone newcomer to the wide out position.
At tight end the Rams return senior starter
Jack Lynch, along with junior
Jeff Ciccio and seniors
Peter Fitzgerald and
Luke Simon.
Lynch started every game the past two years for the Rams while Ciccio appeared in all three games at tight end in the spring, recording five receptions for 64 yards. Fitzgerald also saw action in all three spring games, making one reception while Simon moves over to tight end from the defensive line for 2021.
