Softball Sweeps Atlantic 10 Weekly Awards

Aughinbaugh Named Player of the Week, Miller Pitcher, Carter Rookie

Newport News, Va. – After a 6-0 week, including a four-game sweep of Massachusetts over the weekend, Fordham softball has swept this week's Atlantic 10 awards. Madie Aughinbaugh was named Player of the Week, Devon Miller the Pitcher of the Week, and Michaela Carter the Rookie of the Week. It is the 12th time that the Rams have swept or had a share of all three awards since joining the league in 1996. It is Aughinbaugh's third Player of the Week honor, Miller's third Pitcher award, and Carter's first career accolade.

Led by this trio, the Rams swept a midweek doubleheader with Binghamton and completed an eight-game season sweep of UMass with four weeks this past weekend at Bahoshy Field.

"It's well-deserved to see Augie, Devon, and Mic get recognized for their consistency this week in our games that helped lead to our team success." Head coach Melissa Inouye said, "Augie had a solid week contributing in multiple ways with her pitching, hitting, and speed. Devon continues to compete on the mound and attack hitters, and it's been fun to watch her growth throughout the season. Mic made a few adjustments this week and bounced back after a hard luck previous weekend where she hit the ball hard right at people."

Aughinbaugh was a force at the plate and in the circle, slashing .579/.591/.789 from the lead-off spot with a team-high nine runs batted in, a share of the team-high of seven runs, at least one hit in every game, two hits in five of the six, and reached base safely in two of the six, had no strikeouts, and stole two bases. The graduate student made two starts on the week, once against the Bearcats and once against the Minutewomen, picking up wins in both. Against Binghamton, she allowed just one baserunner, a single, with nine strikeouts over five frames before giving way to Anne Marie Prentiss in relief. Against UMass, outside of a five-run sixth inning, two of which were unearned, Aughinbaugh kept the visitors off the board while going the distance and striking out seven, walking none.

Aughinbaugh is now 13-1 on the year with a 1.63 ERA and 92 strikeouts over 86.0 innings. She is also slashing .337/.427/.538 with four home runs, 29 runs scored, 16 walks to just seven strikeouts, and is a perfect 14-of-14 on the basepaths.

Miller was once again nearly perfect in the circle across three starts this past week, and was genuinely unhittable in Sunday's series finale, a five-inning no-hitter, her third of the year. The sophomore hurler went the distance in all three contests, striking out 31 over 17.0 innings, allowing just one unearned run, and picking up the victory in all three. She began her week with a two-hit shutout against Binghamton, striking out 12, then struck out 11 Minutewomen over five innings with four total baserunners allowed and the one run. On Sunday, she struck out eight and allowed two walks and a hit-by-pitch but was otherwise flawless.

Miller is now 13-2 on the year with a whopping 146 strikeouts over 88.2 innings, a 1.11 ERA, and six shutouts, which is tied for sixth-most in a single campaign, across 18 appearances and 14 starts. Opposing batters are hitting .118 against her.

Carter continued her impressive sophomore season this week, slashing .467/.556/.600 with at least one hit in every game and at least one run scored in all but one contest. The left fielder drew three walks and was successful on all three stolen base attempts, and made eight putouts in the field. She tied Aughinbaugh for the team-high with seven runs this week.

For the year, Carter has started all 40 contests and is second on the team with a .370 batting average, with hits in 30 games so far this year. She has 40 total hits, 29 runs, and a trio of doubles and triples, plus 18 RBIs, and is 8-of-8 in steal attempts. She has committed just one error and has 53 putouts, plus an assist, and owns a .982 fielding percentage.

The Rams will wrap up the regular season this weekend against Saint Joseph's with a four-game series. Friday's opener is set for 3 p.m. The two graduate students, Madie Aughinbaugh and Brielle Cerchio, will be honored prior to the game, while the six-player senior class will be honored between Saturday's two contests.
