Devon Miller Named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week

Sophomore Earns Third Career Weekly Accolade with 15-Strikeout Performance

League Release

Newport News, Va. – Fordham softball sophomore pitcher Devon Miller has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. Due to the unusual circumstances of the past year, the A-10 is allowing freshmen and sophomores to be eligible for the weekly honor and sophomore pitcher Miller is the first Ram to earn one this season. She was a two-time winner of the accolade a year ago over four weeks before the season was shut down.

"Devon had a good and confident presence about her on the mound and was very consistent with her routine." Head coach Melissa Inouye said, "I thought she pounded the zone really well and it was nice to see her get a lot of swings and misses on her pitches."

The Chadds Ford, Pa. native made just one appearance this past week but it was worth the wait – Miller struck out 15 Maine Black Bears in her first career complete game, allowing just one run on three hits and a walk. It's the most strikeouts by a Fordham pitcher since 2016 and the first 15-punchout game since 2015, both Rachel Gillen. For good measure, Miller also doubled and walked in the contest.

Miller is 22nd in the country and tops in the Atlantic 10 with 10.6 strikeouts per seven innings and is 49th with 4.03 hits allowed per seven, also tops in the league. Over seven appearances, four starts, Miller is 3-2 with a 2.59 ERA and 37 strikeouts over 24.1 frames.

The Rams return to action at St. John's on Wednesday at 3 p.m. before beginning Atlantic 10 play with a four-game series at longtime rival Massachusetts this weekend.
