Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Rams Edged by VCU on the Road, 1-0

Maria O’Sullivan Totals Six Saves for Fordham, while Milan Bornstein Becomes Fordham's All-Time Games Played Leader

Richmond, Va. – (October 14, 2021) – Going up against the top team in the Atlantic 10 in the VCU Rams, the Fordham Rams stayed right with the A-10 leader for the entire game, but it was a goal in the 37th minute by Emma Kershner that would put VCU past Fordham, 1-0, on Thursday night at SportsBackers Stadium in Richmond, Virginia.

Maria O'Sullivan was steady in net for Fordham, making her first start of the season.  She posted three early stops to keep the game scoreless, but in the 37th minute, VCU scored the lone marker of the game.  Ella Higgins spun away from Fordham's Danielle Etienne at the right edge of the box and crossed the ball to the middle.  Emma Kershner then volleyed the ball inside the left post for her fourth goal of the season from 10 yards.

Fordham battled all the way to the end and refused to concede another marker, as O'Sullivan made three more saves for a total of six in the game, while in the final minute, Kendall Dandridge ran down a potential goal and cleared it off the line before it rolled into the net.

Though Fordham fell short on the scoreboard, the Rams did have a team record fall on the night, as with her start, Milan Bornstein became Fordham's all-time leader in games played at 81 games, having played every game since the start of the 2017 season.  She passed Brooke Salmon, who played in 80 contests from 2015 to 2018.

Fordham will be back on the pitch on Sunday, October 17th, as the squad hosts Massachusetts for a 1:00 PM match at Jack Coffey Field.
