Women’s Soccer’s Kelly LaMorte Signs Professional Contract to Play Overseas

Rams’ Goalkeeper Signs with Nea Salamina Famagusta Based in Limassol, Cyprus

LaMorteSignBronx, N.Y. – (August 5, 2020) – Former Fordham goalkeeper Kelly LaMorte will be continuing her soccer career at the professional level, as she signed a contract today to play overseas for Nea Salamina Famagusta in Limassol, Cyprus.
 
"I'm so excited for this opportunity to continue playing the game that I love and would like to thank my coaches and teammates at Fordham for the amazing last 4 years," said LaMorte.
 
Nea Salamina Famagusta recently merged with Pygros Limassol, which placed second in the Cyprus First Division Women's League last year.

LaMorte, a 2020 graduate, just completed an outstanding career at Rose Hill, finishing as one of the top goalkeeper's in program history.  She ended her career third in career goals against average at Fordham (1.16), fifth in saves (206), second in minutes played (5100), second in shutouts (15), and third in appearances by a goalkeeper (57).
 
This past season, LaMorte played every second for the Rams as the team's starting goalkeeper for the second consecutive year, and was named overall Team MVP as well as the team's Defensive MVP.  She posted a career-high 98 saves and five shutouts as a senior and finished 16th in the NCAA in minutes played by a goalkeeper (1905) and 35th in total saves.  Among the highlights from her final campaign, LaMorte recorded a career-high 14 saves at George Washington, the most for a Ram goalkeeper in over two decades.
 
Among her other top performances during her career, LaMorte registered a school record shutout streak of 416 minutes over the course of five games during her junior season, which included four consecutive shutouts, and ended the year with eight shutouts, the second-best single season mark in program history.  She was also a part of the team record for single season goals against average at 0.82, which was set in 2017 and matched in 2018.
