Andrew Mevis has been named to the 2020 FCS Punter of the Year Award preseason watch lst by the Augusta Sports Council it was announced yesterday.
The 22 candidates on the list incorporate a broad spectrum of Football Championship Series (FCS) punters. The 2020 watch list was compiled based on the 2019 FCS Punter of the Year watch list, the 2019 All-Conference teams, the 2019 All-American Teams and the 2020 pre-season All-Conference Teams.
The FCS Punter of the Year Award winner will be voted on by the FCS Punter of the Year Award/Ray Guy Award Committee and will be announced after regular season play commences (subject to change based on current COVID-19 updates and decision making by the NCAA and other organizing bodies).
Andrew Mevis (Sr. – P/PK, Warsaw, Ind./Warsaw Community)
• Named 2019 First Team All-Patriot League placekicker
• Also a 2019 Phil Steele First Team All-Patriot League pick
• Started all 12 games as the placekicker and punter in 2019
• Averaged 40.4 yards/punt (70 punts for 2,827 yards) with a long of 57
• Had nine punts of more than 50 yards
• 30 of his 70 punts landed inside the 20 and 28 were fair caught
• Ranked second on the Fordham career punting yards list (8,593) and fourth on the career punting average list (39.3)
• Connected on 15 of 20 field goals with a long of 46 and 31 of his 33 PATs
• Second in the Patriot League, and was 19th in the NCAA FCS, in field goals/game
• Third in Patriot League in field goal percentage (.750)
• Led the Patriot League in scoring (6.3)
• 15 made field goals in 2019 is tied for fifth most in a season in school history
• Kicked off 63 times with 50 touch backs
• Named Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week twice
• Has 27 career field goals, tied for fifth most in school history

About the FCS Punter of the Year Award
The Augusta Sports Council created the FCS Punter of the Year Award in 2019 to honor the best punter playing in the FCS division. Among the statistics used to identify the winner is net punting average, number of times punt is downed or kicked out of bounds inside the opponents 20-yard line, total yardage punted, average returned yardage and percentage of punts not returned with particular emphasis placed on net punting average. The winner must display team leadership, self-discipline and have a positive impact on the team's success.
