With the 2020 spring sports season canceled by the COVID-19 outbreak, we at Fordham have decided to dig back through our archives and provide our fans with content on some of the outstanding teams and student-athletes who have graced Rose Hill over the years
Â
Bronx, N.Y. –  Prior to 2010, the last time Fordham University had a football player drafted by an NFL team Lyndon Johnson was president, gas was 34 cents a gallon and the NFL held their second ever championship game, something called the Super Bowl. That all changed ten years ago as quarterback John Skelton was drafted in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals.
Â

Skelton, a 2009 Second Team All-Patriot League selection, wrapped up a record-shattering career for the Rams that fall, closing out the year completing 284 of 441 passes (64.4%) for 3,708 yards and 26 touchdowns. He set new school marks for completions, passing yards, and completion percentage. Skelton led the NCAA FCS in passing yards/game (337.09) and was ranked second in total offense (348.18 yards/game), fourth in completions per game (25.82) and total passing yards and tenth in passing efficiency (149.95).
Â
Following the season, Skelton was selected to play in the prestigious East-West Shrine game and he received an invitation to the NFL Combine.
Â
Over his career, Skelton completed 802 passes for 9,923 yards and 69 touchdowns, all school marks at the time.
Â
Skelton played three seasons with the Cardinals and then spent part of the 2013 season with Tennessee and San Francisco. He was inducted into the Fordham Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017.
