Bre Cavanaugh Named to MBWA First Team

New York, N.Y. – After being named a WBCA Division I All-American Honorable Mention and a ECAC First Team member, Fordham women's basketball's rising redshirt junior Bre Cavanaugh has been named to the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association First Team for a second straight year, it was announced on Monday. She was named its Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year each of the last two seasons, respectively, but this year those honors went to Rider's Stella Johnson and Columbia's Abbey Hsu.
 
Cavanaugh, the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, led the conference in scoring in and out of league play (19.5 / 21.6) and led all of Division I in total minutes played (1,242). The latter broke down into 38.8 minutes per contest, third nationally, with 40 minutes played in 17 of 32 games. Cavanaugh's 625 points finished the year ranked seventh nationally and sixth in school history. Her 88.2% free-throw percentage ranks fifth all-time at Fordham, led the A-10, and was 12^th in the nation.
 
A three-time league A-10 Player of the Week, Cavanaugh was second on the team in rebounding, tied for 10^th in the conference, with 6.3 boards per game, and was also second on the squad with 43 steals. Her 62 assists were fourth-most on the team and she carried a 1.8 assist/turnover ratio, with just 35 turnovers committed.
 
Having started an even 100 straight contests since donning the maroon and white, she will enter her senior campaign ranked fourth all-time at Fordham with 1,784 points, third in scoring average (17.8), fourth in free throws (402), and fifth in field goals (587), three-pointers (208), and free-throw percentage (84.6%). She will enter her senior campaign as the NCAA's returning leading career scorer.
