Box Score 2 Fort Myers, Fla. – The Fordham softball team bounced back on Saturday with a pair of victories at Florida Gulf Coast's Spring Break Classic, the team's first single-day sweep of the year. The Rams defeated Harvard on a walk-off, 3-2, and UMass Lowell, 2-1, in nine innings. With the results, the Rams improve to 3-11 overall.
Against Harvard to start the day, the Crimson broke through first with a run on a wild pitch by
Anne Marie Prentiss, but the junior held the Crimson to just one more unearned run, three hits, and a walk, while striking out a career-high six batters, over the following six frames to notch her second career complete game and pick up her first win of the season.
Brianna Pinto scored the Rams' first run in the bottom of the third, scoring on a throwing error in foul territory by the Crimson's first baseman.
Gianna Ranieri's RBI single to score
Michaela Carter put Fordham ahead before Harvard evened the score in the sixth. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh and the game tied,
Sarah Taffet smacked a two-out single to left and came all the way around to score on
Madie Aughinbaugh's double into the left centerfield gap, ending the game.
Six different Rams tallied one hit apiece with Pinto, Taffet, and Ranieri each drawing a walk, as well.
In the second game, Aughinbaugh matched her career-high with nine full innings pitched, striking out a season-high nine batters, and garnering her first win of the year. She held the River Hawks scoreless over seven innings before surrendering a run in the eighth. With international rules in play, each half inning began with a runner being put on second base. Fordham scored first on a Taffet sacrifice fly, scoring Ranieri, but the River Hawks answered right away with a RBI single by the first batter.
Aubree Barney came through with a sac fly in the top of the ninth to score Aughinbaugh from third after she was sacrificed over by Carter and the senior came through with a quick 1-2-3 inning in the bottom half of the frame.
