Newport News, Va. – Fordham softball freshman catcher
Amanda Carey was named a co-recipient of the first Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week award of the season, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.

The Mentone, Calif. native appeared in all five contests over the weekend, making four starts, and slashed .500/.571/1.250, all team-highs. She produced six total hits, four going for extra bases, including a pair of home runs, plus two walks over 14 plate appearances. In the opener against Valparaiso, Carey scored the tying run in the first inning after walking, coming around to score on
Sarah Taffet's two-run double, then smacked an opposite-field two-run home run to put the Rams ahead in the second. She finished the contest 2-for-2 also with a triple and a walk.
Against Houston on Saturday night, she tallied Fordham's lone run with a solo home run in the fifth inning. In the finale against Northwestern State, Carey went 2-for-3 with a single and double and threw out her first baserunner attempting to steal second.
Fordham returns to action this weekend at the Fresno State Kick-Off Classic. The Rams will play the hosts twice plus California, Cal Poly, and Saint Mary's. They'll begin play on Friday at 5:30 p.m. ET against California.
