Bronx, N.Y. – (July 10, 2019) – Coming off its first Atlantic 10 Championship since 1998, the Fordham baseball team has seven new additions to its program starting next season, it was announced by Head Coach
Kevin Leighton.
Joining the Rams for the 2020 season are infielder/catcher
Will Findlay (Ledgewood, N.J./Roxbury), pitcher
Alex Henderson (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs), pitcher/outfielder
Benjamin Kovel (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun), pitcher/infielder
Jack Popolizio (Collegeville, Pa./Germantown Academy), infielder
Zach Selinger (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic), pitcher
James Springer (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase HS), and outfielder/pitcher
Aidan Tornquist (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West).
Findlay, a 6-0 infielder/catcher from Ledgewood, New Jersey, was a four-year varsity baseball player for Roxbury High School. He was a three-time First Team All-Conference selection and a Second Team All-Group pick. A team captain, he led Roxbury to two section championships as well as a conference championship. He played summer ball for the Morris County Cubs, where he was named team MVP five times.
Henderson, a 6-1 right-handed pitcher from Saratoga Springs, New York, was a multi-sport athlete at Saratoga Springs High School, playing for the varsity baseball and soccer teams. He was a 2019 Second Team All-Section pick for baseball. He played summer ball for the Glens Falls Dragons of the PGCBL, as well as for the Adirondack Heat. In the classroom, Henderson was a four-year member of the high honor roll.

Kovel, a 6-2 right-handed pitcher/outfielder from Merrick, New York, was a four-year varsity baseball player for Sanford H. Calhoun High School. As a senior, he hit .459, while on the mound, he had a 2.51 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 22.1 innings, while holding opponents to a .165 batting average. He played summer ball for the East Coast Lumberjacks 2019S and was listed on
Newsday's top 100 Long Island players in 2019.
Popolizio, a 5-10 right-handed pitcher/infielder from Collegeville, Pennsylvania, was a four-year varsity baseball player at Germantown Academy. A 2019 team captain, he was chosen as team MVP and was a two-time First Team All-Conference selection (2018 & 2019).
Selinger, a 5-11 infielder from Cortlandt Manor, New York, was a four-year varsity baseball at Kennedy Catholic High School. He set the school record for career hits with 111 and was a 2019 finalist for the NYC CHSAA Player of the Year Award and LoHud Player of the Year Award. A First Team NY Sportswriter Association and CHSAA selection, he earned Perfect Game Preseason All-American honors four times and was selected All-Tournament/Top Prospect six times at Perfect Game events. In addition to baseball, Selinger was the starting quarterback for Kennedy Catholic as a senior, leading the team to the 2019 NYCHSFL Championship game.
Springer, a 6-4 left-handed pitcher from Bethesda, Maryland, was a four-year varsity baseball player at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School. He was an All-Metropolitan Honorable Mention selection by the
Washington Post, while being named All-District 2 by the Maryland State Association of Baseball Coaches (MSABC). He was also named First Team All 4A South Division and was selected to the MSABC Classic West Regional Team and the Brooks Robinson State All-Star North Team where he was named pitching MVP. In 2018, he was chosen to the MSABC Futures Team and the Maryland Cup, while a year earlier he earned Montgomery County Second Team All-District. Springer played summer ball most recently for the Gaithersburg Giants of the MCBL (2019) and Elite Baseball (2017-18). Off the field, he received the Minds in Motion honor, which is a Montgomery County Student-Athlete Award.
Tornquist, a 5-11 left-handed pitcher/outfielder from Dix Hills, New York, was a three-year varsity baseball player at Half Hollow Hills West High School. A 2019 team captain, he was the league MVP as well as an All-League and All-County selection for the second straight season. A candidate for the Carl Yastrzemski Award, he set a school record with three home run in a single game and like fellow recruit Ben Kovel was listed on
Newsday's Top 100 Long Island player for 2019. He played summer ball for MVP Beast 2019, where he was a 2019 Perfect Game Preseason All-American Honorable Mention. Away from the classroom, Tornquist was a member of the National Honor Society, an AP Scholar with distinction, and a National Hispanic Scholar.
