Rowing Competes at Dad Vails

Heavyweight 8 takes second in Final 2

Philadelphia, Pa. – The Fordham women's rowing squad traveled down Philadelphia on Friday and Saturday to compete in the 2019 Jefferson Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River where the heavyweight 8+ shell was edged out at the finish line in the Final 2 race and the heavyweight JV 8+ advanced to the Grand Final.
 
The Rams entered four boats in the competition, the heavyweight 8+, the heavyweight JV 8+, heavyweight 4+, and a third varsity heavyweight.
 
The heavyweight 8+ took eighth in the time trials in 06:45.755, just 0.2 seconds behind UMass, earning the Rams a trip to the semifinals where they placed third in 7:26.801, behind Boston University and Georgetown but ahead of Purdue, Coast Guard and Washington College. The third place finish advanced Fordham to Final 2 where the Rams finished second in 6:30.051, just under a second behind UMass but over two seconds ahead of third place Purdue.
 
The Fordham JV heavyweight 8+ took second in its heat in 7:42.034, behind Drexel and in front of Saint Joseph's, Vassar and Manhattan, to move on to the Coleman D. Boylan Grand Final where the Rams placed sixth in 6:49.832.
 
The Fordham heavyweight 4+ placed 14th in the time trials in 7:49.935, ahead of Atlantic 10 competition Saint Joseph's and Duquesne, to advance to semifinals where the Rams placed sixth in 8:48.827. The Fordham heavyweight 4+ then competed in Final 3 where it placed fifth in 7:33.241.
 
The other Fordham boat that competed at Dad Vails was the third varsity heavyweight 8 that took fourth in the Final in 7:11.192, behind Temple, Drexel and UMass but in front of Bucknell.
 
The Rams return to action on Saturday, May 18, as they compete in the 2019 Atlantic 10 Championships on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, N.J.
