Tomas Nieves in Solo Third After Career-Low-Tying 70

North Kingstown, R.I. – The Fordham golf team started the Rhode Island Invitational well on Monday at Quidnessett Country Club, finishing the day in tie for fourth with Bryant with a combined score of 608, 32-over par. Junior Tomas Nieves led the way with a 1-over par 145 and will head into tomorrow's final round in solo third.

Nieves fired a 3-over par 75 in round one to start T9 but turned it up a notch in round two with a two-under 70, tying her career low. His 145 two-round score would be a new career-low, as well, as would his finish. The same goes for sophomore Anthony Wells who carded rounds of 77-74 to finish in a tie for 10th with a score of 151.

Josh Madarang finished the day tied for 18th at 155 after rounds of 76 and 79, wile Billy Harrison sits in solo 21st at 156. Tommy Hayes concluded play in a tie for 29th after a second-round 84, while Dean Cerimido carded rounds of 82 and 80 to finish in a tie for 35th.

Round three is set to begin at 8 a.m. tomorrow.
