Newport News, Va. – Fordham softball senior infielder
Jordy Storm has been named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday afternoon. The award is the first of Storm's career after she led the Rams to a 2-2 week and a 2-1 start in conference play.
"We're so happy for Jordy getting recognized for a great week at the plate, but that's a credit to her taking full advantage of her opportunities," Head coach
Melissa Inouye said, "She's been swinging at good pitches and having good, quality at-bats, and all of that is attributed to her hard work in practice."
Storm kept up her recent hot-hitting by slashing .429/.467/1.000 over four games, at Stony Brook in midweek and a three-game series at George Washington this past weekend. A few days after notching her first multi-home run game, with her second and third career four-baggers, Storm smoked another bomb at Stony Brook on Tuesday, this one the opposite way, as part of a 2-for-3 day at the plate, the team's lone run scored and multi-hit effort.
Storm led the Rams to a 9-4 win over the Colonials in the conference-opener by going 3-for-4 at the plate with a solo home run, a double, and two runs scored. Her first-inning double started a two-run frame to take an early lead and her fifth-inning solo shot tied the game up at 3-3. She went hitless in game two but drew a bases-loaded walk. On Sunday, Storm's lone hit was a timely one, smacking a lead-off double in the sixth that sparked a three-run rally to win the game.
The Walla Walla, Wash. native is slashing .313/.387/.567 on the year over 22 appearances and 19 starts. She is second on the team with 16 RBI, five doubles, and a .567 slugging percentage, third with four home runs, and fifth with 11 runs scored, all over just 67 at-bats.
The Rams return to the road for a midweek nonconference meeting at Rutgers on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. before traveling to George Mason this weekend for a three-game set.
