Newport News, Va. – Fordham softball sophomore infielder
Rachel Hubertus has been named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon. It is the Hubertus' first career award.
"Rachel was our most consistent hitter this weekend as she did a good job making adjustments with each game," Head coach
Melissa Inouye said, "It's been nice seeing her add some home run power to the lineup and it's a credit to the hard work she's put in."
Hubertus enjoyed a terrific week at the plate over four games, slashing .583/.583/1.167 with at least one hit in each game and at least one run scored in three. The sophomore started with a RBI single in two plate appearances against Seattle before going off for a career-high three hits and two runs in five at-bats against Hawaii, including a two-run home run. The next day, Hubertus doubled and scored against Utah Valley before going 2-for-2 with a solo home run against BYU in the weekend finale, going back-to-back with
Molly Roark in the first inning to stake the Rams to a 3-0 lead.
The Short Hills, N.J. native is slashing .464/.483/.821 over nine games and starts with a team-high 13 hits. Her three home runs are second-most on the team and her six runs are tied for third. After going hitless at #15 Louisiana, Hubertus has tallied at least one hit in all eight games and has reached base at least twice in five.
Fordham is back on the road for this weekend's Diamond 9 Citrus Classic in Orlando at Disney's Wide World of Sports complex, starting with Morgan State and Iowa this Friday at noon.
