Women’s Soccer Opens A-10 Play This Week

Rams Host Richmond on Thursday & George Washington on Sunday to Begin Atlantic 10 Action

Bronx, N.Y. – (September 19, 2018) – Winners of three of its last four games, the Fordham women's soccer team looks to continue that momentum this week, as the Rams begin conference play in the Atlantic 10 with home match-ups against Richmond on Thursday and George Washington on Sunday at Jack Coffey Field.

Fordham (3-5) is coming off back-to-back wins over Manhattan and Marist, both by scores of 2-0, while Richmond (0-8) is still in search of its first win this season.  Sunday's opponent, George Washington, is 4-3-1 on the year and begins conference action at home against Rhode Island on Thursday afternoon.

SERIES HISTORY: This will be the 15th all-time meeting on Thursday between the Rams and the Spiders with Richmond holding an 8-5-1 edge in the previous 14 meetings.  Last season, the two teams met down in Richmond with the Spiders getting a 1-0 double overtime victory.  Prior to that, Fordham was 4-1-1 in the previous six meetings.

On Sunday, it will be the 18th series meeting for Fordham and George Washington.  The series has been pretty even with the Colonials going 7-6-4 in the previous 17 match-ups.  Like Richmond, George Washington also snatched a 1-0 game form the Rams last season.  Fordham's last win over George Washington came in 2012.

LAST TIME OUT: Behind a pair of second half markers from Margaret Roughley and Milan Bornstein, the Fordham women's soccer team wrapped up non-conference action with a 2-0 shutout victory over the Marist Red Foxes at Jack Coffey Field on Thursday night.

After a scoreless first half, the Rams broke the deadlock in the 58th minute after Marist was call for a foul just outside the box on the left side.  Margaret Roughley took the free kick from 20 yards, which evaded the Marist goalkeeper and found the bottom right corner of the net for her second goal of the season.

Then just three minutes later, the Rams increased the lead to 2-0, as Amanda Miller chased after a loose ball in the offensive end.  The Marist goalkeeper came out to challenge with Miller deflecting the ball off her to Milan Bornstein, who ripped the ball into an open net for her first goal of the season.

Those two goals would stand up, as Fordham held Marist to three shots in the game.  Fordham's Kelly LaMorte needed to make just one save on the night to post her third shutout of the season.

WHO'S NEXT: Following these two home matches, the Rams are on the road for their next two conference games, which will be against Davidson on September 27th and Rhode Island on September 30th.
