Emma Johnson scored her first career goal, while
Clara Gastaldi added a goal early in the second half, as the Rams shut out the Manhattan Jaspers, 2-0, in the annual Battle of the Bronx. Fordham improved to 17-8-1 all-time in the Battle of the Bronx against the Jaspers.
Emma Johnson
The Rams controlled most of the play in the first half, outshooting the Jaspers, 8-2, but it was the final shot in the first half that broke the ice for the opening goal of the game.
Lane Cronin put some late pressure on the Jaspers earning a corner kick in the final seconds. Cronin took the ensuing corner kick and found
Emma Johnson for a header from six yards out for her first career goal and a 1-0 lead for the Rams.
Just as fans were getting back into their seats after halftime, Fordham extended the lead to 2-0 in the 47
th minute.
Amanda Miller worked the ball down near the endline, and crossed the ball to the top of the six-yard box.
Clara Gastaldi was able to deflect the cross into the lower right corner of the net for her first goal of the season.
The Rams did not allow much in the way of chances to the Jaspers, as Fordham allowed just two shots in the second half, both of which came in the 87
th minute, where the Rams had to be sharp to finish out the clean sheet.
Off a corner kick, Fordham goalkeeper
Kelly LaMorte stopped a shot by Maddie Barrow that came out for a rebound to Eve Montgomery, who tried to sneak a shot inside the right post, but it was cleared away by a Fordham defender.
LaMorte finished with two saves for her second shutout of the season.
