Bronx, N.Y. – Fordham University men's basketball head coach
Jeff Neubauer announced the signing of
Jalen Cobb (Atlanta, Ga./Columbia/Loomis Chaffee),
Onyinyechi Eyisi (Napa Valley, Calif./Napa Christian/Prolific Prep), and
Ty Perry (Boston, Mass./Brighton/Woodstock Academy) to National Letters of Intent for the 2018-2019 season. The three join
Chris Austin (Pasadena, Calif./Maranatha) and
Chris Honor (Orlando, Fla./Lake Highland) who signed with the Rams last November.
"Jalen Cobb, Onyi Eyisi, and Ty Perry are all tremendous players but also great young men," said Neubauer. "All three will have an immediate impact for our program, both on the court and in the locker room."
Cobb, a 6'0, 165-pound, guard, played at Loomis Chaffee School last winter where he averaged 15 points, 4 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and 2 steals per game for the Pelicans while shooting 37% from behind the arc and 80% from the free-throw line. He was named Class A Honorable Mention All-NEPSAC and helped Loomis to its the best regular season record as a member of Class A.
As a senior at Columbia High School in Decatur, Georgia, in 2016-2017, Cobb was named Honorable Mention All-DeKalb County by the
Atlanta Journal Constitution and Class 5A South All-State.
Head Coach Jeff Neubauer
"Jalen is an athletic guard who can affect the game at both ends of the court," said Neubauer. "His ability to get vertical and change speed makes him an exciting player to watch."
Eyisi, a 6-9, 210-pound forward, from Lagos, Nigeria, will graduate from Napa Christian School in Napa, California. While there, he was a standout on the court for the Prolific Prep Academy team for three years, playing with three McDonald's All-Americans. He helped the Crew to a 27-7 record and an undefeated home schedule in 2017-2018.
Eyisi played well for the Crew in a three-game sweep last November at Napa Valley College. He had 20 points and 15 rebounds in a win over Las Vegas Prep, 127-60, eight points and 13 rebounds in a win over Elite Prep of Pasadena, 115-71, and six points and nine rebounds in a 92-57 win over the Simpson University JV team from Redding.
Eyisi also considered Dartmouth, Portland, Santa Clara, and Cal Poly.
"Onyi is a tall, athletic player who will give us another presence around the rim," said Neubauer. "His development over the next few years will be fun to watch."
Perry, a 6'3, 190-pound, guard, played at Woodstock Academy last winter, helping the Centaurs, who were ranked as high as No. 2 in the country among prep school basketball programs, to a 35-5 record.
Perry led Woodstock Academy to the national prep championship tournament semifinal game where the fourth-seeded Centaurs lost to top-seeded Putnam Science Academy in overtime, 80-72, despite 14 points from Perry.
In a national quarterfinal win over Brewster Academy, Perry led the Centaurs with 26 points including a perfect 14-of-14 from the free throw line.
Prior to his year at Woodstock Academy, Perry played at Brighton High School in Brighton, Massachusetts, where he earned Boston Herald All-Scholastic honors in 2016-2017. A four-year starter for the Bengals, he led the school to the Div. 2 state title in 2017, leaving as the all-time scoring leader with 1,423 points.
He was also recruited by St. Bonaventure and the College of Charleston.
"Ty is a tough minded young man," said Neubauer. "He is very determined to be successful. His ability to improve is what excites us the most."
