Newport News, Va. - The Fordham men's golf team has been selected to finish in ninth place in the Atlantic 10 this spring, it was announced on Friday by the league following the A-10 Match Play Tournament.
Dayton was picked to finish first after garnering five first-place votes, 109 votes overall, in the poll, which was conducted among the league's head golf coaches.
VCU, coming off a victory at the A-10 Match Play Tournament, was picked to finish second with 107 points, just ahead of defending champion Richmond with 104 points. George Washington, which tallied 91 points, was picked fourth, followed by Davidson at fifth (69 points), George Mason at sixth (65 points), Rhode Island at seventh (51 points) and St. Bonaventure (43 points). Fordham, Saint Joseph's and La Salle rounded out the poll, respectively.
The Atlantic 10 men's golf championship begins Friday, April 27 at The Villas at Grand Cypress in Orlando, Fla. The 11 A-10 golf teams will play 18 holes per day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Practice rounds are slated for Thursday. Admission to the Atlantic 10 Golf Championship is free. The winner of the 54-hole event will receive the Atlantic 10's automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals.
The Rams are coming off a fall season that saw them participate in six tournaments, with their best finish coming at the season-opening Central Connecticut's Ryan Lee Memorial Tournament where they won the event with a two round score of 574. Senior
James Mongey won the event with a two-day total of 140 and then set the school record for a two-day total with a total score of 137 at the Bucknell Invitational. Over the fall, senior
Joseph Trim recorded the best average with a 73.1, recording a 68 at the Hartford Invitational, which tied for the low round of the season, en route to a three-round total of 211 which set a school record.
Fordham begins the spring season April 1-2 at the Lafayette Invitational, as the 36-hole tournament will be played at Silver Creek Country Club in Hellertown, Pa.
