200 Freestyle Relay Wins Event to Earn First Team All-Atlantic 10 Honors; Two School Records Fall

Geneva, Ohio – (February 15, 2018) – Day two of the Atlantic 10 Swimming & Diving Championship is in the books at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio. 
 
Through the first two days of action, Fordham is fifth out of 11 teams, as Duquesne remains atop the leaderboard with 235 points, followed by Richmond (201), George Washington (176), St. Bonaventure (164), Fordham (158.5), Massachusetts (151.5), George Mason (102), Saint Louis (88), La Salle (80), Davidson (53), and Rhode Island (51).
 
The highlight of day two came in the final event of the day, where the 200 freestyle relay team of Michelle Martin, Tara Brunner, Amelia Bullock, and Samantha McDonald won the event in a school record time of 1:32.04.  The previous mark was 1:33.01, set in 2016.
 
The scoring for the Rams began in the 500 freestyle, as freshman Bayley Frierson won the "B" final for ninth overall in 4:54.97.  Kate Magill also scored in the event, placing 15th in 4:58.64.
 
Next up was the 200 individual medley, where once again the Rams had a pair of scorers in the "B" final.  Amelia Bullock was runner-up for tenth overall in 2:04.28, while Hannah McGee was 16th in 2:07.61.
 
Then came the 50 freestyle, where freshman Michelle Martin's school record time left her just off the podium in the "A" final by .01 seconds.  Martin finished fourth overall in an NCAA "B" cut and school record time of 22.98 seconds, breaking the previous mark of 23.06, set by Shannon Lulley in 2016.  Samantha McDonald was also in the "A" final, as she tied for fifth in 23.22 seconds.  Tara Brunner was the final scorer for Fordham in the 50 free, winning the "B" final in a time of 23.27 seconds.

In the one-meter dive, Fordham's diving duo of Molly Dunn and Stephanie Kerkeles just missed scoring, as they finished in 17th (206.25) and 18th (203.75), respectively.
 
The Atlantic 10 Championship continues with day three on Friday at 10:00 AM with the preliminaries of the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, and 100 backstroke, with the finals at 6:30 PM.
